Apps for parents of preschoolers and teachers as school begins

Even if your preschooler isn’t ready for a long day in a classroom, parents can use the iPhone or iPod Touch to turn a little education into a playful game. For teachers, however, the app landscape is a lot less useful.

Games to teach basic skills

If you have young children, you’ll want something to keep them occupied during a long car trip or wait at the doctor’s office. iGrade, (99 cents) which simply calculates a student’s test score based upon two inputs: number of quiz questions and number of questions answered incorrectly. The iGrade app spits out the calculated answer as a percentage. Again, this is something your iPhone’s calculator does easily, so an app seems unnecessary.
