Love for BlowAKiss fleeting

For hopeless romantics who double as app fanatics, Walmart and Hershey’s have created an app just for you. Aptly named BlowAKiss, the app virtually does just that.

The premise is simple. Once you launch the app, an animated chocolate kiss unwraps and then asks for a few pieces of information (your name, the recipient’s name and email address plus a message) before your kiss can be sent. You can further customize your kiss by choosing from a number of messages. Then you simply blow into the iPhone’s microphone to send your kiss to the object of your affection. If you have an iPod Touch, you can tap an icon to send your kiss. Cute pink hearts start fluttering on your screen to let you know your kiss was sent.

I was fascinated with this app once I discovered making audible kissing sounds into the iPhone’s microphone also sends the kiss. This made the app more appealing because it added some extra fun. I’m sure this app will appeal to geeky girls who want to send their love interests something thoughtful, but not overly cheesy or romantic.

My fiancé, on the other hand, never mentioned he received my kiss so I suppose it failed to make an impression on him. I’m puzzled why Walmart is involved in this app, as I can’t see how it adds brand value, but it is fun and simple.
