Gyro Tennis brings the game to you

For a limited time, you can buy Gyro Tennis for 99 cents, and it’s worth every penny! This is one of those games that gives you so much for your money. Gyro Tennis has the feel, the sound and the look of every part of a real tennis game. From the moment you hit the ball, you’d think you had stepped out onto a real court. The game gives you five levels to play from, four types of courts to play on, and you can even choose the brand of ball you use.

You can choose your opponent, and the style he/she plays, or you can find a player nearby and play in bluetooth mode. In all but one mode (“point and shot”), you have full control of where the player stands on the court. Aside from getting used to playing with just a racquet, or in other words, the racquet is your player, you’ll be able to take advantage of everything you would in a real game.

The head of the racquet reacts to how you hold the iPhone, and the ball will change direction in response to that movement. The fun comes when you’re both at the net, and the ball rips back and forth with all the sounds of a real match.

An added bonus is the practice mode that lets you take practice swings from a ball cannon. It’s great practice that shows you how well angles work in this game. This game has it all!

The few downsides are that it takes a bit to get used to playing without a player. In other words, your player is a flying tennis racquet that makes all of your shots, though I like that you can see the head of the racquet pivot based on how you’re holding the iPhone. It’s a great game that I think will help your real game.

There is also a selection of tennis racquets to choose from, but it’s hard to see what the differences are, other than color.

The game is totally lifelike, from grunts of the players to cheering fans. You can make some great passing shots, make lobs by holding up your phone, and even put wicked top-spin on the ball. It’s just like the real game. Don’t let the name fool you, it has nothing to do with Greek food!
