American Heroes fails to save itself

American Heroes sounds like a bad-ass crime-fighting game with characters like Superman battling an evil foe. I was not prepared for what I had encountered.

The opening image in American Heroes is a mouse, eating cheese, dressed in a blue hero uniform. This image is also misleading.

In American Heroes, cartoon hero-like characters are trapped in a hidden square and your objective is to reveal the complete picture. There is one visible square out of the picture, and you are the spaceship.

Your spaceship draws a line by using a touch pad and a move button on the right of the screen. The object is to complete a closed shape before a spiral-like enemy destroys you. Your level is complete after you have revealed 70 percent of the picture before the time runs out.

There are 12 levels of play. As you progress and uncover eclectic cartoon hero images, you can get five special items to help reveal your picture. Health hearts and speed items are some of the game’s specialties, and each level increases the amount of enemies which attempt to destroy your spaceship from uncovering the pictures of heroes.

I wanted much more than uncovering pictures of crazy cartoon heroes from American Heroes. This game doesn’t have much to offer other than pretty pictures of heroes, not the crime-fighting, butt-kicking ones you’d hope to get.
