All things considered, NPR Addict delivers

The dulcet tones of the soothing journalists and announcers of National Public Radio will never be out of range with the NPR Addict app for iPhone. This intrepid little helpmate will keep you content–ready for anything NPR, including stations, programs, series, and on-air personalities.

The introduction screen is a radio tower icon that has three buttons below it, “Search,”  “Browse” and “Bookmark,” helping navigate through the thicket of NPR programming, personalities and news.

“Search” functions as both a station finder and content retriever. The built-in iPhone GPS helps find stations when on the road, or you can type in a portion of a name, station or program and search directs you to the proper venue.

The station outlet finder also indicates online streaming availability (but no live streaming on this app), schedules and podcast downloads.

The “Browse” button is just that, going through the NPR world via categories like “All Programs,” “All Bios,” “Podcast Directory” (which also contains handy subset headings such as news, opinion, sports, and even diversions). Podcast updates are fairly quick, especially for news. Besides listening opportunities, in some cases transcripts can be downloaded and read.

“Bookmark” is self-evident; it allows you to mark an NPR source and come back to listen or read the rest of it later.

The creators, Pass Time Software, like to update the app based on user feedback (is a playlist coming?). In essence, this is a comprehensive iPhone addition for the compulsive NPR listener.
