APPOLICIOUS ADVISOR RATING:

5 of 5 bars
  • PRICE: Free
  • TASTY: No need to worry about TiVoing Food Network shows anymore.
  • BUMMER: If you aren’t a fan of these shows, there’s little else to enjoy.
  • COOL: Full, free episodes of your favorite TV shows are a few taps away.
SIMILAR APPS:

Foodies have very particular and demanding tastes, so they’re sure to appreciate the straightforward presentation in "Food Network Nighttime,” an app from the network of the same name that dishes out clips and full episodes from their block of prime-time programming.

“The Next Iron Chef,” “Ace Of Cakes,” “Chopped,” “Good Eats,” and more programs are the main thrust of this app, though PR photos from all the shows are available to the truly hardcore fans. When not catching an episode you missed or a clip you’d like to review, iPhone and iPod Touch users can gauge what everyone else has been watching the most and join in, just like on YouTube. Unlike YouTube, though, “Food Network Nighttime” is also handy enough to give you a current broadcast schedule for the next month -- know what episodes you’ll want to see while on the go, and which ones you’ll need to be stationed on the couch to fully enjoy.

Playback is as smooth as navigating the idiot-proof menus, and if you catch an episode or clip you particularly enjoy, the app also allows you to fire off an email to yourself to make a note of it later, or to your foodie friends. Watching more TV  has just gotten a whole lot easier.
