bakerboy says,

We just released our first app in Nov and I'm trying to figure out ways to market it....any ideas, suggestions appreciated. I ran a couple ads, emailed my distribution list, twittered, facebooked and created a youtube video of the app but it's real slow...

Ideas welcome.

I think you've got a good start; starting a discussion here was also excellent. Here are a few other things you could try: offer some people a code for the app in exchange for a review on sites like Appolicious. Besides the exposure you may get some tips that help you improve the app and make it more appealing to other users.
Search out pages on Facebook where people might be talking about something your app has a connection to (Italy, cooking, etc.) and describe the app.

FreeAppADay is going to start offering non-gaming apps very soon; it seems to me apps that show up there do well because they get some time on Apple's Top 25 apps list. I don't know how long that exposure lasts, but it might be worth a start.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I did offer promo codes to several website in exchange for a review but haven't heard anything yet...I'll followup and see what happens. Question: how to I submit my app for review on Appolcious..I'm a little lost here :-)

Thanks again

Sorry it's taken so long for me to reply; I had set the thread to notify me of responses but I didn't receive anything.

As long as your app is in the iTunes store - which it is - it's here on Appolicious. Now you just have to encourage someone to try it and review it.

You could offer a promo code; I've even seen developers publish codes on Twitter just to see if anyone grabs them. You could do that or publish them on Facebook, perhaps.

I believe you can publish comments in response to an app on Appolicious; you could offer the code in the comments section or maybe just tell us something new about your app so that we give it a go.

Promoting Apps is really a difficult job. :-/
I believe review sites are full of review requests. A better way seem to offer promo-codes directly to players, which are willing to write a review at a site like this here.

What I now tried is to set my App (http://itunes.apple.com/app/the-greedy-sponge/id412577023) to $0 for a limited time. In Germany it worked very well. Over night.. I got into TOP10 for Puzzle and almost in TOP25 for the gaming. USA is much larger and coming much slower.. #46 in puzzle subcategory.

Anyway it seems to be very important people can try out the stuff.

Lillian,

My app FaceFlipBook has been on the iTunes store for over a month. Is there a backlog of apps that are not yet listed on Appolicious? I am not seeing it in the results from the search above?
