Z The Game (iPhone, iPad) $4.99
Fans of old-school PC games will recognize Z The Game, a port of a real-time strategy title from 1996 that also appeared on Sony’s original PlayStation. The game puts players in control of an army of red robots fighting another army of blue ones to conquer several planets across the galaxy.
Like other RTS titles such as Gameloft’s Starfront: Collision, troops in Z are controlled by tapping them and giving them orders by tapping around the game space, either to capture certain territories or go on patrols, or to attack other groups of soldiers. The game is a bit of a throwback, but RTS fans will find 20 fun levels and a goofy atmosphere.
Shake Spears! (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Take up your spear and mount your horse – it’s time to take on other knights in jousting tournaments across the realm in Shake Spears! The game is fairly simple, giving you control of your shield and spear as you race across the screen toward your enemy. The goal is to block your enemy’s attack with your shield by dragging your thumb up and down the left side of the screen, while trying to get your spear past your enemy’s shield to strike his body by moving your thumb on the right side.
Between battles, you’ll earn gold for your victories that can be applied to buying new equipment to strengthen your knight and magic spells that can give you the edge. Each tournament pits you against five jousters, and in each of the four realms you’ll eventually take on a tougher boss jouster. Your scores get logged on Shake Spears! leaderboards thanks to support from Game Center and OpenFeint.
