Some of us are returning to work today after an extra day off, and if the short week has you extra busy, you might want to check out Body Motion in today’s Download Discounts. It’s free until the end of the month and has instructions to help you complete a fat-burning workout in four-minute intervals. Then you can reward yourself with Sky Wars or iSink U, a couple of free games that bring simple competition to your iPhone. Read about all three below.
Body Motion (iPhone, iPad) Free (was $0.99)
Strapped for workout time? Body Motion understands -- that’s why it’s packed with (get this) four-minute workout intervals, so you can slip in a quick exercise session even when you’re completely devoid of free time. The app also includes some longer, specially designed eight- and 16-minute workouts, and is designed to give you the most benefit for the least amount of time possible.
Body Motion doesn’t just provide you with workout instructions, though. It also monitors your motion by using your iPhone’s accelerometer to track your reps through your micro-workout. But in case you do need good instructions, Body Motion has you covered there, too, by providing detailed animations to show you exactly what you need to do to get the most out of your four minutes.
Sky Wars (iPhone) Free (was $0.99)
Sky Wars is a simple competition: you and your opponent each get a complement of sky ships, which are just round objects that form a line on either side of the screen. Each of you takes turns using touch controls to “fling” ships at one another -- the idea is to bounce the enemy ships into the edges of the screen or various objects to destroy them. Whoever eliminates the other team first wins the match.
Each win pushes the enemy line back or lets your line advance, and every loss has the opposite effect. Whoever can cross the screen and overtake the other’s side is the winner of the whole game. It’s a simple but addicting concept, and in addition to playing against the (infuriatingly good) computer player, you can also challenge friends with local, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and online multiplayer.
iSink U (iPhone) Free (was $0.99)
You’ve played iSink U before -- it’s basically Battleship, but with a few notable additions and some solid play to be had. Chiefly, iSink U just looks cool, integrating cel-shaded and 3D gaming visuals. It also alters the way the game plays slightly, by giving you the ability to fire multiple shots at the enemy grid in a single turn, making the whole enterprise move along a lot faster.
There’s the AI-controlled opponent to play against in iSink U, which will give you at least some challenge, and the game also features a pass-and-play multiplayer mode that gives more of a board game experience. You also get more strategy out of iSink U, because the power of your attacks against the enemy is determined by which ships you choose to open fire on them.
