I used Awaken for a week and I am well rested. I feel better than I have in ages. I’ve got a spring in my step, a twinkle in my eye and an alarm clock app that has a date with the delete button.
I appreciate the beauty rest, but at the end of the day (actually, make that the beginning), I need an alarm clock app that wakes me up. Awaken doesn’t.
An alarm clock app has to be stupid proof. If you switch your iPhone's ringer to silent because you’re going to spend all day in conference rooms, you don’t want to get a nasty surprise the next day because you didn’t think to switch it back.
Awaken does its job if you select a wake-up song from your iPod’s playlist, but if you choose one of the app’s “sounds,” forget about it. Awaken’s “sounds” alarms don’t work when the iPhone’s ringer is off. Thanks for the missed flight, Awaken!
Another thing I just don’t understand is why the app has to be the last thing running in order for it to work. If I check an email and go to bed without logging back in to Awaken, I’m signing up for a 10 a.m. where-are-you call from the boss. That’s unacceptable. My job is to know what time I need to get up. My alarm clock app should take care of everything else.
Awaken has a slick look and lots of cool alarm clock features, but it simply doesn’t wake you up. Save yourself the heartache (and pink slip) and go with something else.
