We’ve got a couple of cool free apps for you in today’s Download Discounts. One is a free version of the original role-playing baseball sim, Baseball Superstars, and another lets you turn tracks from your music library into vinyl records, perfect for manipulating as if you were a dance-club DJ. Scroll down and take a look.
Baseball Superstars Free (iPhone) Free (was $1.99)
The Baseball Superstars app game franchise is in its third year of creating interesting, deep baseball simulators. Baseball Superstars 2011 was just released earlier this month for $4.99, and now the original is available in the App Store as a free ad-supported version.
You can play this RPG-style game as a single baseball star, working your way up through games to increase your skills and buy new equipment in order to play better, or manage a whole team and try to bring them to greatness. Baseball Superstars also supports a league mode, letting you work through an entire season, and a homerun derby mode.
Yeah DJ (iPhone, iPad) Free (was $0.99)
Yeah DJ is a fun app that lets you play tracks from your iPhone and iPad music library as if they were records, allowing you to manipulate the turntables like you were really a DJ scratching away at real vinyl.
There’s not a whole lot to Yeah DJ except the ability to have a little fun with your music, but the app supports the ability to slow down and speed up tracks, as well as scratch the records and play them backwards with the touch screen controls. Seems like a decent good time for an app that costs exactly nothing.
Necronomicon (iPhone) $0.99 (was $1.99)
The game combines elements from role-playing games, card games and board games, with an unsettling soundtrack and a lot of cool artwork. It’s not exactly high-action, but functions more on the slow-burn level of a game like Clue. The Lovecraftian story has you investigating an evil cult that’s stolen the Necronomicon and is attempting to open a gateway to another dimension, and pretty much end the world. Fans of old-style RPGs and horror should have a pretty good time here.
