New iPhone apps worth downloading: Shade°, Incredipede, Riddick: The Merc Files

by Andrew Koziara

Shade° is a brand new weather forecast app that goes with a much more colorful, simple, stylish approach to providing your weather news for the day. Rain or shine, Incredipede is a fantsastic physics puzzler featuring Quozzle the incredipede. Part creepy, part cute, all fun! Once you're done with that, you can move on to some ultra violence and stealth as the most bad-ass anti-hero around in Riddick: The Merc Files.

Shade° ($1.99)

What’s it about? A stylish new weather app that maps out your day simply and elegantly.Shade1

What’s cool? Using different colors to indicate weather conditions and temperature (though not only colors, of course), plus simple, eye pleasing graphs and a fairly accurate seven day forecast, Shade° is a slightly different kind of weather app. It's more focused on your visual experience, and does away with clutter and loads of numbers and data points, while still giving you access to all of that information. With multiple location support, you can make your own little weather rainbow. If all you're interested in is functionality, there are plenty of options, but Shade° is a more artistic approach to this necessary kind of app.

Who’s it for? People who have yet to pick a favorite weather app. People who love apps with style.

What’s it like? Another minimalist, clutter free weather app is Solar. Also, there's always AccuWeather.

Incredipede ($3.99)

What’s it about? A cool indie title with a unique look that has you controlling the most bizarre little creature ever.

What’s cool? Previously released on PC, Incredipede is a well made puzzler that's garnered a few fans. This is physics puzzling done right, and the best thing about this game is how unique it plays and feels. You play as an Incredipede named Quozzle. Quozzle can sprout new arms and legs whenever she wellIncredipede1 pleases, growing them from whatever joint she wants. You can make snake like creatures, quadrapeds, arachnids, and so much more. Whatever the environmental puzzle needs you to make, you can, even sharing your creations with friends. The port process was a little rough on ole' Quozzle, and the game has some issues to look out for. Maybe wait for an update, but don't leave this Incredipede hanging.

Who’s it for? People who like innovative new games, with a coat of quirk and charm.

What’s it like? Fantastic Contraption is like the less organic precursor to this game.

Riddick: The Merc Files ($2.99)

What’s it about? A stealth action game that puts you in the boots of everyone's favorite deep voices sci-fi anti-hero.

What’s cool? It's Riddick. What's not cool? Vin Diesel's signature character, convict, murderer, and escape artist needs to be in more games. The original 'Escape from Butcher Bay' is still in my top three Xbox games ever, and that team has been called back to make this top down iOS beauty. Giving you theRiddickMercFiles1 choice to ghost enemies from the shadows or mow them down like the massive wall of meat and muscle that you are, you'll go through mission after mission. You can even share your coolest moments with friends via a video sharing feature. There is a lot more content coming in the future.

Who’s it for? Stealth action fans, Riddick fans… basically, grown men with 12 year old souls.

What’s it like? It's reminiscent of Glu Mobile's The Nightworld. For more stealthy violence, check out Splinter Cell: Conviction.
