Hunting for a roommate to go with your apartment? If you live in San Francisco, you'll find our first app worth downloading today, Roommates, to be extremely useful. The app makes it easy to search for roommates compatible with living with you, and provides an online place to meet and discuss before committing to interacting in person. We've also got a pair of games to control your weekend free time: an update to tower defense title Kingdom Rush: Frontiers that introduces pirates and naval battles, and Nun Attack: Run & Gun, an endless running title in which players take on the role of one of four gun-toting, monster-blasting nuns.
What’s it about? Roommates focuses on what its name suggests: helping people find roommates. Though currently limited to a few cities, the app provides an easygoing, safe environment for users to interact and, potentially, meet offline.
What’s cool? Finding good roommates for various living situations can be a pain, often because it's hard to get to know a potential roommate before it's too late and you discover they have a penchant for leaving cheese in the bathroom or watching blaring television in the middle of the night. Roommates looks to ease that pain by providing its users with a place where they can search for potential roommates, find other users based on compatibility, and interact with them long before ever meeting them in person. If online meetings go well, users can take their roommate negotiations offline, but the app helps to remove any obligation from the process.
Who’s it for? Roommates currently only supports users searching for living partners in San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles, but its developers are working to add more cities in the near future.
Kingdom Rush Frontiers update ($0.99)
What’s it about? The sequel to the awesome tower defense title Kingdom Rush brings new towers, new heroes, and a new campaign to players, plus an update that packs new levels.
What’s cool? Kingdom Rush Frontiers expands on the already awesome Kingdom Rush, adding to the game's tactical take on tower defense. Both games put an emphasis on combining the usual formula – arranging defensive installations that shoot at approaching enemies as they walk along a set path – with managing soldiers that can block enemies and cause them to take more damage. Kingdom Rush Frontiers adds new towers and upgrades to the original game, as well as new “hero” units that have special abilities and are great for guarding each level's vulnerable endpoints. The new update to Frontiers adds three new “naval battle” levels, as well as two new heroes for players to use, a handful of new enemies to fight, and a big boss battle to top it all off.
Who’s it for? Fans of tower defense titles shouldn't miss Frontiers' great take on the genre.
Nun Attack: Run & Gun (Free)
What’s it about? An endless runner based on the characters and gameplay of shooter Nun Attack, Run & Gun presents players of lots of stuff to unlock to customize their fighting nuns as they battle the forces of evil.
What’s cool? Nun Attack introduced players to four evil-fighting, gun-toting nuns who had to work their way through lots of different levels and fight off demons, skeletons, monsters and more. Nun Attack: Run & Gun takes a lot of those same elements and the same four nuns, and puts them in an endless runner in which they have to shoot their way through monsters and dodge obstacles to stay alive. The game provides players with three major controls – the ability to jump or slide over or under obstacles, and the ability to blast waiting monsters with automatic weapons. As you earn coins from your runs, you can upgrade and unlock additional nuns and guns to amplify your monster-killing abilities. You'll also spend each level jumping and dropping between various pathways aligned vertically, so the game includes a lot of elements of reflex, skill and planning as you work to get as far as possible on each run.
Who’s it for? Players who get a kick out of monster-killing nuns and the endless runner genre will enjoy Nun Attack: Run & Gun.
