Here are three great iPhone apps to enjoy. Givit is another entry in the ever-growing “Instagram-for-video” market allowing users to easily splice together their videos to create cool highlight reels. Also, we’ve got two games today. NBA 2K13 is the next installment in the popular basketball game franchise, while Wimp: Who Stole My Panties is a cute and colorful 2D physics/platformer with plenty of varied game mechanics.
What’s cool? It’s easy to splice together several videos or multiple scenes from a single video into one ‘highlight’ then add transitions and effects. Finish things off with music direct from Givit or add songs from your on device. You get 5GB of free cloud storage space with Givit, which is a nice touch, and there are no video length restrictions. Also, it’s easy to share your creations via social networks once you’re done editing.
Who is it for? Avid video shooters will enjoy the features of Givit. There’s a crowded (and buzzing) market for these kinds of apps right now, but Givit was created by the experts at VMIX so its pedigree is strong and the company has good funding.
What’s it like? There are many apps competing for the the “Instagram-for-video” crown including popular favorites like Viddy (which has length restrictions), Magisto and SocialCam which was recently purchased by Autodesk for $60m.
NBA 2K13 ($7.99)
What’s cool? This time round, there are improved graphics and intuitive one-finger controls. You can now challenge your friends in the new multiplayer mode via Game Center or Bluetooth. In addition, the “NBA’s Greatest Games” feature lets you relive some historically significant performances like Kobe Bryant’s 81-point game in 2006. There’s also a kickin’ soundtrack by JAY Z.
Who is it for? Fans of last year’s title will appreciate the improvements in NBA 2K13, especially the multiplayer modes. The updated rosters, improved soundtrack, sharper graphics, multi-season mode (so you can build up a true dynasty) and sweeter controls all make for a better gaming experience.
What’s it like? The other big, licensed pro-basketball franchise in the iTunes App Store is NBA Jam by EA Sports. Most other basketball games are more casual like Arcade Hoops, iBasket and Streetball.
Wimp: Who Stole My Panties ($0.99)
What’s cool? Wimp is a cute little blob who dreams of adventure. Unfortunately, her (his?) panties have been stolen. You’ll need to travel through some astounding worlds and catch the evil panty pilferer. It’s the game’s varied mechanics that make Wimp an interesting title: it offers loads of challenging puzzles, air-control, wall-jumps, double jumps, the ability to stick to surfaces, teleportation and more.
Who is it for? This polished platformer will appeal to fans of the genre. Its production values are high and it oozes quality. There are 50 unique levels to plow through, boss fights, achievements, Retina graphics and even the opportunity to completely customize the game’s controls.
What’s it like? Well, there are numerous physics-based platformers in the iTunes App Store, so Wimp is similar to many, many titles out there. FlexileStudio is an independent game developer based in Belarus and this is their first iOS title.
