CoPilot Live Premium makes for a solid GPS iPhone app

Review for CoPilot Live Premium USA – Offline GPS Navigation & Maps

Posted May 7, 2012 2:30pm by Dan Kricke Tags: Navigation, United States, Travel, gps

APPOLICIOUS ADVISOR RATING:

4 of 5 bars
  • PRICE: $8.99
  • TASTY: Points of interest are listed right on the map so you won’t miss anything worth checking out on your trip.
  • BUMMER: “Free” traffic service isn’t free at all.
  • COOL: The navigation and maps look great and are easy to understand and follow.

Since this review was published, the developers of the app have contacted Appolicious to let us know that the bug outlined below has been fixed, and CoPilot Live Premium does come with 12 months free ActiveTraffic.

CoPilot Live Premium GPS - USA has a ton of worthwhile features. It has great looking 2-D and 3-D maps, a loud, clear voice navigation system that tells you when to turn at the correct time, and even points of interest placed directly on the map so you don’t miss anything you’re interested in seeing. But the thing that stands out, especially given the app’s serious price, is the feature it doesn’t have.

CoPilot Live claims to offer 12 free months of its traffic-navigation system. For anyone that uses a GPS for highway travel, that is a huge deal. There’s nothing worse than being stuck on a highway in bumper-to-bumper traffic and not knowing the nearby roads well enough to find a reasonable back-up route. Live traffic would solve the problem by advising ahead of time to not take the congested highway in the first place.Despite the claim for free traffic navigation, attempting to activate the traffic within the app results in an “Are you sure?” style prompt noting there will be an additional charge of $9.99. 10 dollars is not exactly free.

Traffic problems aside, CoPilot Live Premium makes for an excellent mobile GPS at a fraction of the cost of a Garmin or similar unit. I own a Garmin Nuvi but wouldn’t hesitate to use CoPilot in its place. The navigation display looks great and is easier to follow than any GPS I’ve used previously. The ability to quickly change your route by tapping and dragging across the screen gives CoPilot an edge in adaptability as well.

If you’re in the market for a GPS on your iPhone, there’s a tremendous amount to like about CoPilot. Perhaps the glitch making users pay to use the traffic service will be cleared up shortly, but even despite that, this is a strong navigation system worthy of any trip.

Thanks for the wonderful review Dan! We greatly appreciate you taking the time to try our CoPilot Live Premium app and providing a detailed review.

I wanted to let you know, shortly after launching the free 12 months traffic service we became aware of a tech issue that was preventing some customers from activating the service.

I’m happy to report we were able to identify the problem and thanks to a quick turnaround from Apple we were able to get an update out that fixed the problem! It is available in our latest free app update - Version 9.1.0.296 that was released on May 2nd.

If any CoPilot customers are still having issues receiving their free traffic subscription, they can contact our Support team: http://www.copilotlive.com/us/support/supportContact.asp or through any of our social media sites and we’d be happy to help them!

I hope this information is helpful to everyone! Thanks again.
