Foxconn lets public radio reporter take video of how iPads are made

Public radio reporter Rob Schmitz knows the real way to get to the bottom of an issue, like the production of iPads and other consumer electronics at Foxconn.

Schmitz, the Shanghai Bureau Chief for the American Public Media program Marketplace, got first-hand access to tape how iPads are actually manufactured.

Schmitz was the journalist who also exposed factual flaws in Mike Daisey’s The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs. Initially a staged monologue, Daisey’s semi-account of labor practices at Foxconn formed the basis of a later retracted episode of radio program This American Life.

While we aren’t sure how much access Schmitz received at Foxconn, we appreciated his less dramatic account.
