Sonar comes with an interesting premise. If cool people are nearby, you should be able to hang out with them. It's one part inventive and two parts creepy, though, for people to know that you're near them.
Or even the ultimate networking app.
We all know that when we check in on Facebook or FourSquare we can see who is at our location. But what we can't see is if there's anyone we are sort of connected to at that location. What am I talking about? Well let's say you're at a party and you hardly know anyone. Check in with Sonar and instead of just seeing if your friends are there you'll also see if any friends of friends are there. Weird eh? But also cool. Oh hey, you know Ashley too!
For events like SXSW or any affinity group meetups this could be especially useful. I can imagine being at motorcycle or nonprofit gigs and loving this app to build new connections. Not only will the app tell you that this person is there but it tells you how you're connected.
And of course if you're a crazy stalker you can make sure you don't miss a friend of your beloved just because you're not friends with them... creepy? Maybe, but then isn't a lot of social that way?
