As owner of a small computer business, I find myself working on all kinds of strange problems in all kinds of unique places. My iPhone, now a must-have tool for solving technical issues, is even more powerful when paired with SpeedTest.
No matter where I am, I can connect to a router or mobile hotspot and see what kind of connection speeds I'm getting.
I think everyone needs this app, and needs to use it frequently to see if our service providers are living up to what they say they are providing us, in terms of upload and download speeds. It would be great if it had a snapshot feature and the ability to e-mail our results directly to our service providers!
I live in a weird area of my city. Apparently I can get DSL but it's not as fast as they promised because I'm too far away from the start of the tubes, or some such silly nonsense. Unfortunately what that really means is that sometimes my DSL is so painful slow I feel like I'm on dial-up and keep waiting to hear that horrible modem sound. It's bad enough that I'm looking for other options. It's bad enough that this app is very useful.
This app is super useful for techy and nontechy alike. You don't have to know what you're looking at to have this app on your phone, all you really have to do is compare your web speed in a couple of different places and soon you'll have a good feel for the speed of the internet wherever you are. The app keeps at least a few test logs so comparing is easy.
Unfortunately while it does tell you about your internet connection speeds, it will not fix the issue. For travelling it could be pretty helpful to determine where you want to buy that cup of internet coffee!

I use this fairly often to troubleshoot my personal network, or networks I am asked to work on as a professional. It's a nice, easy to use app that's very similar to ones you find made with Flash on the internet. Good port.
It's nice that it includes a history of your tests as well so that one can establish a basis for understanding the network you're dealing with as you test successively.
If you've always wondered how fast your network connection really is and don't trust what the cable or phone company is telling you, just use this app. It rates the speed of your cellular or Wi-Fi connection. You'll be surprised at what you learn.
