Not the best but good enough

I can't complain with Google Translate. The English to another language translation is passable. I wouldn't mind taking this to one of the countries in its Country list and I think I would fare pretty well. Some of the natives will probably chuckle but they'll get the gist of what I'm trying to say.
The issue is when I tried translating from another language to English using the microphone. Living in culturally diverse California the test was a piece of cake. I tried translating French, Pilipino and Chinese to English and the results were not even in the ballpark. I was getting "yahoo," "google" answers. If you're scratching you head, I was too.
Google Translate does supply a text field that might work as a way around the mic issue. But it won't work with Chinese or Japanese characters. BUT the ability to show Chinese/Japanese characters makes this a keeper. As we know, trying to conversate in some dialects requires proper intonation. This app allows me to show the phrase rather than say it. Very cool!
