HearPlanet Turns Your iPhone Into A Talking Tour Guide

If you prefer to listen to an audio guide when touring a new place instead of reading a guide book, HearPlanet is an app worth checking out. The app covers thousands of locations around the globe, using mostly Wikipedia as its source of info. The app is a great supplement if you like audio, and features a real person's voice for major U.S. landmarks. For all other locations there is a robot-sounding voice. I'm not that big of a fan of the robot voice, but it is kind of entertaining. For example, when speaking about "NGOs in Ghana", the robot pronounces "NGOs" as "NOs". Very funny. For an audio guide in your pocket though, this is a good app. You can also try the HearPlanet Lite version which is free. The main thing lacking in the Lite version are integrated maps - which reminds me of another cool thing about the premium version: the app uses location-based technology to identify other points of interest near the topic you searched for.
