The 2010 FIFA World Cup will take place in South Africa June 11-June 12 2010. If you can't make the trip or are counting the days until the first games, we recommend downloading these nine iPhone apps.

iPhone Apps to prepare for World Cup 2010

1) If you are considering making the trip to South Africa for the World Cup 2010, the best iPhone app to download first is Southafrica2010 World Cup Soccer Cup Tracker. Each day, the app provides news and updates about the event and FIFA teams. If your team qualifies for the Tournament, come back to the 99-cent iPhone app each day for customized feeds and information.

2) The best way to follow your team and the field of competition before World 2010 is via the FIFA News iPhone app. This 99-cent iPhone app is great for stats, photos and instant score updates.

3) Looking to brag about your World Cup knowledge? Before you go to the pub, make sure to come equipped with World Cup Trivia Challenge. This $1.99 iPhone app provides unique gameplay in addition to scores of questions.

Best World Cup 2010 game with these iPhone apps for gamers

FIFA 10 by EA Sports

4) Electronic Arts is the master of sports game apps for the iPhone, and again delivers with FIFA 10 by EA Sports. Like Madden NFL 10, this iPhone app is worthy every penny of its $10 price tag.

5)  Another great iPhone app that will help you put on your World Cup 2010 game face a few months early is Real Soccer 2010. This $6.99 iPhone app remains one of the top selling soccer games in the iPhone App Store.

6) Table Football enthusiasts will get a kick out of iTable Soccer Online, which currently dominates the space for the iPhone. If the iconic British board game is not your thing, it's best to pass on this $3.99 application for the iPhone.

Follow individual soccer teams with these iPhone apps

MyMadrid

7) MyMadrid is not only the best iPhone app to follow an international sports team, but is also setting the standard for how team-driven applications should serve fans. This iPhone app is a bargain at $2.99.

8) Although Man Utd News is little more than a simple newsreader, if you're a fan of Manchester United than this $1.99 application is a no-brainer.

9) While a bit pricey at $4.99, Arsenal is a comprehensive, team-authorized app that brings you match highlights, photo galleries and video clips of Arsenal.

Hi Brad. One app I would also recommend is "SouthAfrica-Fan" which in my opinion is very complete, and has some interesting features such as push notifications and youtube videos, among tons of information. Thought you or your readers would also like it.

and predict the results for finals, semifinals, and quarters.

This official WC app from ESPN is pretty sweet. They have the best bracket predictor of the ones I’ve seen. Also check out The Beautiful App. It has some awesome social features to help you celbrae the Cup with your friends. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the-beautiful-app/id375385266#

Hi Guys,

If your thinking of doing a sweepstakes for the world cup I recommend this app - http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/sweepstakes/id375545293?

Good app, but the best app for the World Cup 2010 is World Football Calendar 2010: calendar of matches, the FIFA news, team compositions, national anthems, etc...
And it is free!

So it just got approved, so it is not here yet, but we just released a great World Cup app, especially if you love Foursquare. It is called Mappr.

It lets you check in with one of the teams. Both the App and our website www.map.pr then let you see the great places where people are watching the game.

Hope it makes your top list!
