I love to shop and I don't deny it. Gilt for iPad (free) is like stepping onto Fifth Avenue in New York City, only everything is on sale.

Here’s the thing: it’s quite possible that somebody, after I die, is going to have the words “it was on sale” chiseled into my tombstone.

Gilt’s selections range from handbags, with list prices of more than $300 (Gilt price of $99), or a $650 digital photo frame (Gilt price $530), to a huge variety of Lonely Planet travel guides for 40 percent off list.

Jewelry, clothing for men, women and children, and items for the home are presented beautifully on Gilt for iPad. To add an item to your shopping cart, simply drag it down to the bottom of the screen. Tap on the cart, and thumbnail photos of your choices will gently pop up.

To access the list of sales in portrait view, tap “Sales” at the top left of the screen and a list will appear. In landscape mode, the list remains at the left side of the screen. Tap the photo of something you like, and a page with specific details will open.

Upcoming sales are listed, but you can’t get specifics on the items until they go on sale. Sales have limited time frames.
