APPOLICIOUS ADVISOR RATING:

4 of 5 bars
  • PRICE: Free
  • TASTY: Great way to firm up an outfit choice.
  • BUMMER: Sometimes, the pictures aren’t very clear.
  • COOL: Feeds your interest in fashion.

It’s Saturday night and you need the perfect outfit to hit the town. But you can’t make up your mind between the little black dress and the sparkly miniskirt. Unfortunately, your BFF is stuck in another zip code.

But you can still get the feedback you crave with the free iPhone app Go Try It On. It isn’t as good as having Rachel Zoe sitting in your living room, but it will work in pinch.

Slip in to option No. 1, snap a quick pic and upload it to your profile. You need to provide a brief description about where you plan to wear the outfit, and then it is time to share.

Other app users can let you know if your get-up is a thumbs up or thumbs down. And they can provide specific advice, such as how to best accessorize the outfit and style hair.

If you are staying in, but want to live vicariously through others, you can do the reviewing. Warning: there are plenty of sartorially-challenged people on this app, so if you are a New York City fashionista, this probably isn’t the app for you.

And unfortunately, the pictures don’t always upload well, so sometimes you are trying to make a judgment through gray pixels. But still, the app is incredibly entertaining.
