Fall in love with these mobile apps for Valentine’s Day

by Kate Currin

Most people either love or hate Valentine’s Day. It’s that international day for recognizing all the fabulous people in your life who deserve a little extra love and attention. Whether you celebrate with the typical box of chocolates and long-stemmed roses, or spend the night out with your friends, here are some marvelous mobile apps to spice up your Valentine’s Day.

Snapette (Free)

Looking for a snappy and sexy outfit to wear on your hot Valentine’s Day date? The free Snapette app is a fun way to shop local. Not only can you find the best boutiques and deals nearby with this fashion app, but you can also see what other well-dressed ladies are wearing in your town and around the world. If you are downloading Snapette to an iPhone 5, iPad Mini or any Apple product with iOS 6 or better, make sure you take advantage of Passbook integration. Beyond just calling up for Valentine’s Day, Snapette is an app that you will fall in love with any time of the year.

Gravy (Free)

Not sure what you are in the mood for? Perhaps you are looking for something a little bit more creative than dinner for your Valentine’s Day date? Check out the free Gravy app to discover nearby events to match your attitude on Valentine’s Day. Whether you are going on a date or just hanging out with friends this year, use the Gravy app to find activities that are classy, brainy, lively, or whatever. You can also view events that are trending in your area. Make your date - or date-defying night out with friends! - more groovy with Gravy.

Wine Spectator WineRatings+ (Free)

Want to avoid the crowds this year? Plan a romantic date at home with a fine bottle of wine. Do your wine research easily with the free Wine Spectator WineRatings+ app and hit your favorite local wine shop to grab a bottle or two (or three) for your romantic evening. Or, do your research ahead of time so you can pick out the perfect bottle when you hit the restaurant with your date. Just avoid that Cupid Caberet, okay?

Let’s Date: Free Casual Social Dating (Free)

If you are dateless for Valentine’s Day and you don’t want to be, try out the free Let’s Date app for iPhone. Billed as “the Instagram of dating”, Let’s Date is filled with potential dates with dater cards for your perusal. The design of the app is fun and intuitive, so what are you waiting for? You can even earn badges for going on dates (if that is your thing).

Uber (Free)

We recently recommended for a New Year’s eve night out. We love it so much we are turning to Uber again. Impress your date with something new this Valentine’s Day. Instead of picking him or her up in a yellow cab, try a snazzy black Uber car. Use the free Uber app to schedule your sophisticated black car and pay for the ride in-app. The map in the app gives the driver exactly where to pick you up and will even update you on Uber car arrival times. It’s fancy, yet convenient transportation that is sure to earn you bonus points with your date for being smart and sexy. You can drink an extra cocktail since you don’t have to drive. Bonus!
