Around Me Review

This is a good but not great app. It is easy to navigate the app and get directions to locations but it needs more data to be fed in to become a 5 star app in my opinion.

One-Handed Local Search

This app is kind of a one-trick pony, but it does a great job of getting you to the nearby locations you need - gas stations, restaurants, coffee, and more. Works a lot better than typing in a search in your Google maps.

Not much different from how Goople Maps and Yahoo maps works, but it goes that extra mile. Get a list of what's in your neighborhood, whether or not you'll actually like checking out your search results is another story.

It's worth at least checking out.

Best app for locating anything!

If I had to pick only one app for traveling, this would be it. It will find anything, showing distance and map out the directions. It has certain set categories of commonly searched places: hotels, ATMs, gas stations, grocery.... But you can search any name or business you want.
I even use it close to home when I need to find the nearest pet store, toys r us, you name it. Incredible time saver and very easy to use.

Add to your list of must haves for around the city

This is one of those apps I discovered later than sooner, that I wish I would have had sooner. AroundMe fills that gap where Google Maps, Yelp and Foursquare leave. I just want to get a sense of what coffee shops is near me (or do should I just stick with the Starbucks). Simple, intuitive, quick, and super useful to find simple things around you like coffee, gas, movies, bars. Yelp review integration would make it 5 bars. But hey, it's free = awesome. :)

Traveling In A New City & Need To Find Nearby Businesses/Services?

I used the AroundMe app during a recent trip to quickly find the nearest ATM, gas station, and restaurant. This app is great when you're in a new city and need to quickly identify nearby businesses/services. If you also want recommendations or reviews of the businesses listed, you may also want to use the Yelp app in tandem with the AroundMe app. For a quick and simple listing of nearby businesses, AroundMe is really helpful.

Great app when you don't know an area. Travel much? Even in your own state or region? Get this app. My State is quite spread out, so this Summer I've been exploring in short 1-2 day trips (cheaper than longer vacations further away). Around Me has been great for finding stuff I never knew existed, as well as finding basic needs in a hurry. Better still, it links to review sites for things like hotels, B&B's, and restaurants. If you're traveling to parts unknown, this is a great app. Dunno if that's true for every location, but for this part of the world it's excellent. Just wish they'd release a true iPad version, instead of iPhone only. As for small towns, I just looked up features for a small port town of under 1,000 people, and the details were amazing. Your milage may vary; etc.

There are an awful lot of this kind of app around, and I do find them useful when I travel, but otherwise not much in a small town on an island. So, pretty meh for me.

This app saved me!

This app saved me recently as a friend and I searched for a gas station while on a road trip. The accurate locations and quick-loading pages made it so easy!

Wait, Where Am I?

Want to know where the nearest grocery store is? Pharmacy? Bar? This app will help you with that. Not all that useful for the neighborhoods you know this app is beyond handy for traveling as finding these places in a space you’re not familiar with can be very difficult.

While I suppose not everyone wants to go clothes shopping while at a conference or traveling I did find this apps lack of a shopping category for clothes rather bizarre. Personally I’d suspect this is more interesting to most than say “theatre” but perhaps there are more theatre fans out there than I imagine. I guess if you’re traveling for pleasure in New York you might well want to know where you can take in a show, but it seems just as likely you might need a nice outfit for it right?

The extra bonus of having a weather forecast on the app is especially nice for traveling even though it’s likely not the most accurate forecast. Basic information is better than nothing.

Great when on the road

Really have enjoyed this one when traveling -- especially when looking for local places to eat -- not chains or franchise spots. Have found several local jewels.

Just not useful enough...

This is a wonderful concept, but it's just not useful enough to have on my iPhone all of the time. I've re-downloaded this one two or three times, but deleted it after a use or two. I like Yelp and FourSquare better.

I scoffed when a friend recommended this app to me. How could anything be better than using Google Maps to find what you want? Well, "Around Me" takes Google Maps one better!

"Around Me" comes in handy when you're traveling in an unfamiliar area and get that donut or coffee craving. Organized by category, you select what you're look ing for: supermarket, restaurant, coffee, banks, gas stations (to name a few). "Around Me" pinpoints businesses around your current location and tells you the distance. Select a business and you'll get a map for directions. You can call the business, send an email, add the business to your contacts, or get directions (through Google Maps).

So when you need a service or business fast, whip out your iPhone with "Around Me" to get your bearings and quickly navigate any neighborhood.
