Great New Match 3 Game
- App review for Peppers The Game

For Match 3 games, there appear to be only two key factors: flashy graphics & exciting noises that are used to make up for a lack of creativity in how the games are played (Bejeweled series comes to mind here), or, like this Peppers app, create a new gameplay mode for your 'matching' enjoyment.
Full Disclosure: I was asked to review this app by the developer, who claimed his game was more fun than Bejeweled. Well, I have Bejeweled 2 on my iPhone and I agree it IS more fun than that.
Since "more entertaining" was a claim used in the developer's request for review, I think I need to weigh in on whether or not it was more "entertaining" than Bejeweled or not.
The graphics aren't as "whiz-bang" as Bejeweled, because BeJeweled has lots of flashy things happening graphically and shiny moving objects abound. In Peppers, the noises are less entertaining, especially the female voice used for this app, so one level of stimulation isn't there, and given that the graphics are excellent, but fairly static, another visual entertainment wasn't on par with Bejeweled for pure gaming excitement.
My only suggestion could be to add another gameplay mode so there are three really different play modes, and find out more ways to increase how to play Match 3 and put them in. In this excellent row-sliding mode, I found the combos to be more satisfying than other Match 3 style games I've played. As a genre, it's not my favorite kind of game, but addictive for some, I know.
Still, I really enjoyed the game, and enjoyed it more than Bejeweled PRECISELY because of the innovative row-sliding mode (in the Hot Stuff and On Fire Levels) that Bejeweled doesn't have, which I found to be more fun to strategize how to maximally stack up combos.
This feature alone made the game better for me and one that I will likely enjoy for some time to come. Let's hope more updates improve the core competency of this app, which is it's interesting gameplay mode, and hope they add more. If they continue doing so, I think Bejeweled will have a strong challenger on it's hands.
