iPhone and iPad App User Reviews

Excellent value

Once you've got this neat little app on your device it is easy to transfer PDFs from your laptop via a WiFi connection. This is ideal for travellers who may want to read PDF travel guides and what not. The viewer is akin to sliding the PDF around under a sheet of glass, but pinch and zoom still work well, making it great for maps. At this price it is a no brainer.

Relax Dream

I am not a fan of this app at all. I'm sure there are much better relaxing, music oriented, dreamscapes out there. You can either download the music or you can play it as a quick time file. I felt like it was really difficult to use and slow. It made me cranky, not tired. Agitated, not sleepy. This app is a bad cliche. The best part of downloading this app, is that I can probably use it later for sound effects, especially if I need rain.

UltraSound Whistle is a very basic dog whistle. It's an icon of a whistle and you can change the frequency with the typical plus and minus signs. It ranges from to 12000Hz to40000Hz. I prefer dog whistler or dog whistle instead.

Japanese Massage Lite

The lite version of this app comes with 18 images; each with a short description that demonstrates the art of Japanese Massage. For example, did you know that if you
1. put your index finger at a right angle to your nose
2. Rub left to right and repeat twelve times
THE EFFECTS
can regulate metabolism and strengthen confidence?
While I'm not a fan of the music choices that accompany the images, they can be turned off. Truly, an enjoyable experience.

The IQ Test Light Addition

  • App review for The IQ Test : Free Edition

I looooooooooooove this app. The Lite version includes tests such as general analogy, verbal analogy, logical reasoning, visualization, and many others. There is also the mixed test, which includes questions from every category. The answers to the questions are provided in the results along with their difficulty level. In addition, you can adjust how many questions you want for each test and how much time you want to answer the questions. There is also a progress meter to see how much you have improved. This is soon to be my favorite Brain Game. If the lite version is this good, I can't imagine how addictive the PRO version is.

Skout Dating

This app is a lot like Match, except I think Match is better. It's supposed to work based on your location and suggest the people who are within close proximity. It fails miserably at this. Also, to get all of the features you have to $ign up/join. Oh and most of the people's user names are ridiculous.Match is better.

Doodle Buddy is loads of fun

The kids love it! Wish there were more character stamps that you could scroll to select. Backgrounds only seem to work in portrait mode. Can't move art work once it's placed though, otherwise I would have scored it higher.

One of the better free music creation apps

Virtuoso is a neat little app. My daughter has played several songs with, although playing the split keyboard took a little to get used to at first.

TweetDeck for iPad delivers only on a few levels

I was somewhat disappointed with this app. It only shows some of my lists. I couldn't figure out how to remove columns at first, and updates don't seem to be in sync with my iMac or PC

Speller

This is a very basic spelling app that uses google to spell check. You type in the word, suggestions of the correct spelling come up, or you can press the google button, which will take you to the web definition. I assume there are more languages if there is a pro version, but for now it's all in English. This app is a great time saver!

Great Features, Except Sounds

  • App review for Shopping Assistant $

This is a great app with a great and simple UI, but the noises this thing makes are just too loud and frankly if I was shopping I'd have everybody in the store staring at me while this app beeped and booped me into embarrassment. I wish it had a "sound off" feature to complete it's excellent feature set otherwise.

creative recipes!

As a college student who can't cook, I was hesitant about Epicurious. I mean, I don't even know the definition of epicurious! Hang on while I look it up...

Okay so epicurious isn't a real word but EPICURE means "a person with refined taste, especially in regards to food and wine".

THAT IS SO NOT ME.

Luckily, the Epicurious app makes it easy for me to fake it. (That's what she said.) I can browse recipes based on category (healthy lunches, people who can't cook, and the cocktail categories are my favorite) and even add the ingredients to my shopping list so I don't forget anything at the grocery store.

Let's just put it this way: If I can do it, YOU can do it.

Hey, it was hard to get better, but now they've included many characters from the films, you can play your own music and connect to other phones via Bluetooth. It's great!

pretty clever idea!

  • App review for iDaily
  • Posted by jenniferalaine April 21, 2010

31 Seconds, although kind of a misnomer (it was formerly iDaily), is a free daily trivia and factoid app. Focusing on TODAY, it provides the birthdays of famous and historical figures on this day, a section for "this day in history", as well as a daily quote.

The cool feature that it has is the ability to share the information from directly within in the app. Tapping once on the screen brings up the option to open Wikipedia, share on Twitter, share on Facebook, or e-mail the content.

Clever!

Utilitarian and trusted

The games were created in conjunction with some of the top scientists, and they are simple, challenging, and easy to understand the point of.

It's a no frills app, the graphics are as basic as they could get, but the reports on your BPI (not sure what that stands for yet) are cool and straight to the point.

You've got to enter your age, education level, and gender, and I'm sure that's not as they say for more personalized training, cause the games are the same for everyone, but rather they take that info for research data. No problem, cause I'm sure they're not going to publish anything on the early thirties guy who did pretty terribly on all but one test.

One definite complaint is in the problem solving game, the numbers are exquisitely tiny, requiring a bit of squinting.

I'll happily fork out ¥1200 to have a trusted app to train my brain, and my son's on, cause after thirty, brains start their inevitable descent, and god knows my son needs practice in maintaining attention, given he takes three times as long as he should on homework (intelligent guy lacking a long attention span).

Excellent tutorial program, decent UI.

The program is excellent for honing your chess skills, whatever your level may be. The AI will adjust it's strength to challenge your level, which is based on your ELO rating, and make human-like mistakes.

Then there's the chess puzzles, in which you try to make the best move, and the program will tell you whether you made the best move or not. It would be nice if it explained why that was the best move, but you're left to think it out, which I suppose is good for the old noggin.

I find that the touch sensitivity is too high when trying to move your piece though.

The different chess pieces and chess board options are nice, but they're nowhere near Deep Green's gorgeous graphics and animations.

If you're looking for the best tutorial chess program, then by all accounts, this is the one you want (I haven't tried 'em all, but the reviewers that have all say this is the one you want).

Great Preschool Learning Tool!

This app is designed for easy navigation and built in reinforcement to encourage learning. Instructions are spoken clearly and all three parts work really well together. I highly recommend this app for toddlers and preschool kids!

Can see the potential

I can really see the potential in this. It seems to be gathering critical mass in the US, but here in Indonesia it has a long way to go -- good things come to those who wait I guess. The latest "tip" nearby to me was made 11 days ago, but it's still a good tip - I'll go a fair way for a good soto betawi! Huge potential. App is easy to use and just makes sense.
