iPhone and iPad App User Reviews

Good puzzle

I like this game. it is pretty much like sokoban, with dark elements.
I've actually played this on a mobile phone and wanted to try it out here ($0.99 on the app store.)
Basically there are creatures that are lurking in the darkness which you must avoid. their only weakness is light, and you make use of light sources (flashlight, lamps, etc) to go through the stages. you could try the lite version if you want to try it out.

The best quickplay shooter out there.

Although H1N1 Buster seems to be surfing on the pandemia wave, it is a 2D shooter to consider, for 0.99$.

Basically, it's kind of a mix between Asteroid and Syberian Strike. Viruses come down the screen and you try to shoot them down, or avoid them, as they fly towards you.

The big viruses seperate in 2-4 medium ones.
The medium viruses also split into smaller viruses.

As you get to level 4, it's already quite difficult, if you're not careful. But fortunately, you have power-ups! They don't have names, so I'll try to make some up.

- Slow-Down : Bullet-time effect, for a few seconds
- Double-Speed: Double firepower
- Red-attacks: Piercing bullets that clear the screen in no time
- Shield: You're invincible when you have this. Almost.
- Lightning: Blast the whole screen
- Life: 1up !

As you progress through the levels, the music evolves into something more stressful, and the viruses get frantic. If you keep your calm, you can navigate around the viruses, and stay in control. If you panic and kill all the big viruses, you will soon be surrounded by smaller viruses, and thingd will get out of hand... unless you get the right power-ups!

Originally, I bought H1N1 Buster as a joke to show to my friends, as we always make H1N1 jokes, but after we all played it one by one, we all wanted to play it a few more times. In fact, now I'm very happy that I got it, because I get to keep it, and take it out whenever I have 5 minutes to spend on my ipod.

All in all, I really like this game, and I recommend it to anyone who likes tetris, shooters and funky music.

But beware, you might end-up spending more time then you expected when you got this game.

An as they say, although H1N1 Buster will not cure actual diseases, it's a definite shot of fun.

Try it, rate it!

Best app for me

I hate wasting time in a mall looking at that giant directory like an idiot. This is perfect for finding everything- esp the bathrooms! And it's very cool that they considered people who need to take elevators.

Super cool awesome game. Oh wait, of course I'm going to say that...I made it! But seriously, the game is a lot of fun for only a buck and we're already working on updates to make it better!

Best,

The Zen Task/Todo App

This app looks gorgeous, and it does what it does really, really well. Did I mention that it looks fabulous.

When tasks are raining down on you like hailstones, Things will help to sort it all out and seems to have a calming effect. It does this by only showing the stuff that's relevant.

The drawbacks are: it will only sync with it's companion Mac software and it will only do this on the same wifi network. This means you have to remember to do this before you go to work/go out and when you come back, otherwise you won't be 'in sync'.

There's no way to access your data from a PC, so if you have a Mac at home and a PC at work, tough. You either do everything on your phone, or make notes and then do stuff when you get home.

Having said that, the app never claims to do otherwise. This is just the way it's been designed, and for a lot of people this will be completely fine.

The developers are working on a solution to this Mac/iPhone insularity and it will be very interesting to see developments in this area.

So, do I like the app? - yes, i love it. Do I use it always? No, because I can't take it to work when I'm really busy and use it properly.

Simple, efficient, workmanlike app

Having tried a few, this is the shopping app that's stayed on the front screen of my iPhone for months.

It's simple. It starts off with a generous number of items that you can delete or add to as you wish.

You can use separate lists if you like, eg groceries, pharmacy, etc. and you can see all items if you want, and there's an index so you can find things fast.

When there's something you need, you just tap it and it goes into your shopping cart. The number of things you need to buy appears on the badge.

When you're shopping you just tap things as you buy them, leaving only the things you need.

The items and font are large enough to see and to tap on the go without hitting the wrong item or squinting to see what it is.

You can enter cost of items if you want, and choose from $, £, Euro or Yen.

You can take your shopping list/s and email them to yourself or your butler/general factotum/servant!

There is no function to add photos or anything like that. Funny, I don't need to add a photo of a loaf of bread, or can of beans, even at my advanced age I can remember them well, and spot them in shops!

This is a shopping app for people who need to get stuff done, not play around tweaking software so that there's no time to do the shopping!

A great eye opener

If you are a fan of looking up Trip Advisor reviews on local restaurants then this app is worth a look.

The reviews are written by real people, so this has good and bad points. It's good because you tend to get a more truthful opinion from an 'everyman' point of view, but bad as some people seem to have very exacting standards.

For example, I'm not as worried in a restaurant by the colour of the tablecloth and the quality of the knives and forks, but I'm extremely fussy about the freshness and quality of the food. Other reviewers seem to rabbit on about lots of stuff that I consider periferal, and hardly mention the food! Still, that's what it's all about.

Some reviews are VERY amusing too.

A good notes app if you use Toodledo

This is the companion app to Appigo's Todo. It's a fairly plain notes app with a couple of great features.

First off, it will sync flawlessly with Toodledo, very fast and stable.

You can do a small amount of html formatting on it too, bold, heading, bullets etc.

The real bonus is that it works seemlessly with Appigo's Todo, so you can make one of your notes into a Task, or the other way round.

You can also password protect notes.
If it introduced images and voice, this would be a slam dunk, don't look any further app.

The best way to keep up with your hotmail/live mail account

I know that you can now add hotmail into your iphone mail account, but it's not very good. Fine if you have 1 or 2 emails a day, but rubbish if you have lots.

You can forward hotmail to another account which does work well, but hotmail sometimes forgets or ignores certain emails, so this is a great option.

Easy to set up, fast. Recommended.

One of the handiest apps for football lovers

This is the best way for people in the UK to find out whether and when a certain match is going to be shown on TV.

There are so many channels now that can and do show football, that it's easy to miss a game. This little app will show you all the televised games coming up, and those you either bookmark from the complete list, or you can choose a team or teams to follow. It tells you which channel is showing it and the time. Great stuff

My favourite ebook reader

I use this and Stanza. I prefer this one as there is a button to scroll text! The ultimate reader, now you don't even have to keep touching the screen to turn the pages!

It will download your previously purchased ebooks from a variety of bookstores. Try it, it's free.

A simple to use, excellent Twitter app

I vary between using this and Twitter2. Both are excellent, but have different strengths IMHO.

Echofon is easier to pick up and just use, Tweetie2 probably has more depth and looks nicer.

Both would serve you well.

This could change your life...

On lots of Task/Todo apps, you see GTD or Getting Things Done methodology being quoted. This little book extracts the core ideas from the Getting Things Done book.

It's a different way of thinking about all the things you have to do, which are cluttering up your mind, stopping you from concentrating properly on the task in hand.

Most people who read this will read it more than once. It's easy to get the gist, and then after a while, you go back to refine things.

Great Fun

For a free game, this one's hard to beat. It starts off easy and then gets harder, but never so difficult you feel you want to give up. There are lots of levels, and I love the graphics. They are very cute. Not for hardened 'gamers' more for people who want to waste a few minutes and have a laugh.

Great App

I like this app because it included short videos on how to do things. For example there's one on how to chop an onion very fine. The instructions are clear and the recipes are good. Nice, casual attitude too. Definitely worth a look for anyone, even those who don't cook a lot.

Fun. Simple. Addictive.

  • App review for Minigore
  • Posted by jossssss January 08, 2010
  • Recommended for Gamers

Minigore is one of my favorite games on the iPhone.
On the paper though, it didn't seem to have a lot to offer: unique map, unique character, simple game.

However this game, as simple as it is, is totally addictive.
Controls are incredibly easy and smooth: left thumb controls the character's direction, right thumb controls fire direction.

The principle is rather simple: John Gore is in the middle of the forest, and must shoot at furries coming around him. The more you kill, the more you have to kill.

This game is not for people looking for a long game with a scenario, bosses, etc ...
However, it is ideal if you have 5 minutes to waste (or more, if you're really good): at the dentist's, before a job inteview, in the train ...

What I like about it :
- Well designed (map, characters, furries)
- Very good controls
- Excellent soundtrack (but please get out of my head, you minigore music !)
- Regular updates with improvements, new characters, ...

What I don't like:
- I usually loose my high scores on updates
