Another classic app redone

  • App review for Frogger

I have to say Frogger was more fun on other platforms, and for some reason, on the iPhone it didn't hold my interest. It's still as challenging as ever, but the swipe/accelerometer functionality for movement didn't ever seem quite right for this game, as a real decisive feel to each jump seemed needed here, and left me a little soft on replayability. Plus, I played it a ton as a kid, so now...?

One app I didn't use

  • App review for GasBag

I downloaded, fired it up and saw that it worked, but beyond that, I can't say I ever used it to find cheap gas, and now that I am in Canada, where prices are almost always the same everywhere, it has little place in my app arsenal.

In know a lot of people

Just LOVE this app, but I just didn't. Maybe it's just me, but I found that no matter what I did, planes crashed into each other, and I was never able to progress past the initial level. Didn't hold my interest much at all.

Good Idea, but...

  • App review for File Ninja
  • Posted by durgadas January 16, 2010
  • Recommended for Tech/Social Networking Junkies

I get this basic functionality via MobileMe, and I rated it lower as it was only when I set it up as a server on my iPhone 3GS did I begin having problems enough that I had to restore from backup- so this app had very little time to prove itself in it's core functionality.

Good Game, A Little To Hectic

  • App review for Diner Dash Deluxe
  • Posted by durgadas January 16, 2010

I liked this game a lot at first, but after a little while I found it too hectic to play, as more speed seemed needed, and I couldn't find any more speed. After about halfway, I couldn't see any strategy that would work beyond just being faster.

Among My Favorite TD apps

In my curated apps, I rated this among the top 5, and I still feel this is the case. The combo of story, role-playing, and tower defense is a winning combination here!

Beautiful UI

This app has everything but the desktop app to synch it to, which is why I use Things instead, but for daily shopping or GTD sorts of activities in the short term- this app is great, and very sweet eye candy also.

Great, Simple, Easy To Use

  • App review for Convert ~ the unit calculator

Where this application wins over all the other alternatives- some of which are in these All-In-One apps- is the simple, easy to understand UI. Having so many apps has really clued me into which companies do this well, and which do not- this one clearly does and so this is why basically every reviewer everywhere says the same thing as I am saying now.

One of my favorites

  • App review for CONNECT 4

The only thing that would make this app better is the multiplayer experience I get from Link4 by PlayMesh. This is better AI for the one player side, however, and has generally better graphics, if one needs better graphics for a game like this one.

Great White Noise App

This I prefer sometimes to Ambiance, although Ambiance has a larger variety of natural sounds, this one is simpler and easier to use in IMO.

A Great Game- on or off the iPhone

  • App review for Bloons TD
  • Posted by durgadas January 16, 2010
  • Recommended for Road Warriors, Book Readers, Gamers, Students, Music Fans, Social Butterflies, Budget Hawks or Tech/Social Networking Junkies

This game was always one of my favorite TD games, and the port of the game to the iPhone has not suffered. I can see the care that has gone into this, and I enjoyed the game in the same way I was enjoying the Flash version of it. All the strategies are the same, the resource amounts and costs are the same and it's the same wonderful TD game I always liked.

Beautifully Done

  • App review for Bhaja Govindam
  • Posted by durgadas January 16, 2010
  • Recommended for Road Warriors, Book Readers, Music Fans or Social Butterflies

This is a favorite app of mine when I am in the mood for chanting. This is the classic chant by Adi Shankara, imploring a "fool" like us to turn his heart toward Sri Krishna. A truly remarkable devotional work from a man whose towering intellect changed India forever by essentially challenging all major philosophers in India at the time to essentially race for philosophical pink slips- the loser had to convert to the winner's philosophical outlook. Adi Shankara did this so effectively and in such a short time span- and walking basically across the whole of India- that he's rightfully a legendary figure up to this day.

Finally!

  • App review for Dragon's Lair
  • Posted by durgadas January 16, 2010
  • Recommended for Road Warriors, Gamers, Students, Career People, Social Butterflies, Film/TV Fans or Tech/Social Networking Junkies

I have to say that years ago, this was one EXPENSIVE game to play. I would watch people play it, and I could never figure out the sequencing without many many quarters. I was glad to get through the game in the new more helpful mode they put in, and hopefully, I can try it in the classic arcade mode again soon. Naturally, this retains all the beautiful graphics of the original and still groundbreaking game- but it's the funny noises that Dirk makes which make this game ultimately work. All his grunts and oofs and screeches are really what made this game fun.

Great version of a classic game

These games have always been a favorite, even back in the day on older computers they had these games. This is a nice implementation of one with excellent graphics (although not much is needed in the way of graphics in these games), and nothing to take away from the game play experience. A very quick 2-5 minute quick game experience.

Keeps Getting Better - Beauty & Brains

There are certain applications you can tell are loved by their creators. 2Do is definitely one of those apps. Before writing this review, I was trying to decide if I was more impressed with 2Do's user interface or its functionality, but I realized that 2Do is so useful because of it's well thought-out design.

2Do covers all the features of a task management program I expect. These include:
- syncing with Outlook (and iCal)
- Priority setting
- Due-Date setting
- Categories, Projects and Checklist Management
- Notes
- Alarms
- Recurring tasks
- Links to contacts

In addition to these features, 2Do offers tags, picture linking, URL linking, email reminders, password protection, Twitter linking and more. The program also provides extensive settings customization. About the only feature I would add would be the ability to assign tasks to others.

To continue the love, the developers -- GuidedWays are committed to the app's future. Recent updates have significantly added to the feature set, more updates are planned and this roadmap is outlined on their website and even in the app. The company is equally committed to support getting back to me very quickly in response to a technical question.

One final note, the developers are Muslim and you will see on their website that they develop application relevant to their faith. If you dig a little deeper into the site you will find an FAQ meant to respond to the many questions they have about this. I was both amused and saddened with the some of the public's concerns about this. If Microsoft decided to create a bible application, I doubt people elsewhere in the world would consider it a nefarious conspiracy. Besides if someone could develop an iPhone to do list capable of taking over the world, I would love to see it.
