iPhone and iPad App User Reviews

A much used app

I listen to the radio a lot and will hear songs which I would really like to have on my phone.
I simply pick up the phone, click on Shazam and tag it.
I can then check out the tune, either instantly or later, on itunes, listen to a preview and buy it should I wish.
Your tags remain in the app until such time as you delete them, meaning if you forget about it you won't lose the details when you close the app.
I have bought a lot of tunes after using this app to tag

Ideal quick card game

Which can easily be picked up again at a later time.
I love this game. It is good for improving your maths skills.
It is one of those games where if you only have 5 minutes you can start a game, shut it down and go back to it later without having to think about what you are doing and where you were in the game

Another favourite

Of the 2 year old I nanny.
He comes up and asks for the animals on my phone!
It has actually helped him in his numbers, recognising and saying them, but in a very fun way. He instantly knows from the outline exactly which animal is going to be made once the numbers are all connected!

One of my most used photo apps

This is my first choice when I want to quickly edit a picture.
The cut and crop is very easily done. It is very easy to use and save edited photos

Favourite app

Of the 2 year old I nanny!
He absolutely loves this.
As well as the obvious song, which everyone knows, there is so much interaction within the app itself that he is kept busy for ages!
He loves the painting/squeaking pigs, the dumper truck and the tractor.
It is a good, fun app which is ideal for kids of all ages

Ideal

I don't use trains every day, but when I do I use this app.
You can plan a journey in advance, see exactly where your train is while you are waiting, and also see if there is a delay in it leaving a specific station.

Easy to use

I use this a lot to send greetings to my American pals.
It is easy to use, personalisation of the greetings is easy also.

Ok

This is another "Dash" game I bought when I was going through a phase of playing a lot of dash games.
It's ok but I'm thinking it would be best suited to those with a lot of time on their hands which, lately, isn't me.
I still keep my dash games on my iphone but play them very rarely

Love it

I have always enjoyed a game of solitaire, and this is the best game I have found yet. I am finding that I am constantly playing Klondike as I enjoy it.
The best bit? The app tells you when there are no more possible moves left! That saves you constantly going round and round the cards just in case there is one card left you can get out!!

Love it

Great Graphics, Poor Execution

  • App review for Balloon Card

I received a Tweet from the developer, asking me to review this application. I did so, and my comments are below.

1) I liked the ease of use and the three simple steps to send the e-card.
2) The graphical interface was nice and the card itself was very nice and had an interesting concept behind popping of the balloons. I would have wanted some more options, as I have many options for sending ecards these days, and many more variations, even on free websites.
3) I tested and sent myself an email card to see what the result would be. I received the following below.
a) I wasn't able to open the interactive version when opening this on my Mac, giving me an error message. I copied the link attempting to discover what app it used, but it appears that this message was meant to use only on an iPod or iPhone. This means that my wife wouldn't be able to open this on her Mac and would confuse her why. She's got an iPod Touch, but doesn't use it.
b) If I delete the application from my iPhone, and try to launch the interactive version, I get no response whatsoever on my iPhone. I think that one would want to be taken to the iTunes Store to download the application if there was such a dependency. I see there is a link to install the app, but it's confusing why that is there (to a regular user), as it's not clear that the reason why the interactive link doesn't work is because the app hasn't been installed.
4) I looked around for options of what types of cards I could send, and the only changes I can see that I can make is to buy Red Heart balloons for $2.99 and Pink ones for $0.99- which is an extraordinary cost given the cost of the app and what it delivers. I have a free app that's changed my entire way of handling my reminders, calendar and note-taking situation, so it's amazing to me that we would put in this hidden cost, and it feels frankly dishonest.

Given the very limited card-sending capabilities, the hidden extra costs for so little, and the fact that it must be someone with an iPhone or iPod that you're sending to, I am not sure how I could recommend this product to anyone. There are simply too many limitations, restrictions and hidden costs- not to mention the enormous glut of alternate options without so many restrictions that are free on the web. Granted many of those cannot view ecards inside their iPhones because of the Flash limitations, but even so, an iPhone is almost always a second option for people and not their main platform.

I would want to see many more types of cards, packages of upgrade options, flowers, balloons, etc. that give a person a large range of fun things to send and for $0.99 each instead. I would want to be able to open and view a flash version of the card if I didn't have an iPhone.

Having said all this, the developer was delighted to have the feedback, and I was impressed by their very open and accepting attitude toward my critique of the app. Once this app is done better, I'd like to check it out for sure, just due to this very positive attitude.

Classics book reader

Never thought I would read a book on an iPhone, but I've now read and enjoyed many classics I've been meaning to read. And the google books are free.

Classical music sometimes results in some strange selections but quality is good, and you can always skip to the next selection.

Unique features & Missing Features

App Purpose:
- Shopping List Manager

Cool:
- Tag cloud of past purchase items
- Attractive interface
- Wireless list sharing
- Easily track items of different sizes

Drag:
- No grouping of items within a list
- Awkward editing of items in list
- Weak English directions

Bottom Line:
- Great if you share shopping list management with someone
- Good for simple list management only

Full Review:
I bought the app because it has an attractive interface with some innovative features like a tag cloud and wireless list sharing. Upon using it though, I discovered it is missing a few features and will keep searching for the perfect shopping list manager.

The most notable deficiency for me is the ability to organize items to be purchased by groups. The app will let me keep separate lists. It uses a page metaphor similar to Safari on the iPhone. It seems that you use this function for keeping track of a single shopping trip -- like groceries bought last week is one list and those for this week becomes a second list. However, within a page, I can't group all my dairy, meat, beverages etc. I am able to manually sort a list though.

Clearly, English is a second language for the developers. Of course that's fine, but the directions are a bit sketchy as a result. I realized by accident that I can choose items from previous purchases by rotating the iPhone to landscape mode. This makes adding items easy in some ways, but it takes a bit to figure out how to select different size items like a gallon of milk versus a quart. I do like this 'units' feature though. It keeps track of the prices for different sizes.

The tag cloud (the app calls it 'bubbles') is a cool feature that I have not seen in other shopping apps. TooShopper tracks how much you purchase each item. Your most purchased items appear at the top of the list in larger type. So, if you buy bread, milk and eggs everytime you go to the grocery store, you can quickly add these.

Editing an item in your list to say, add a new price, takes too many taps for my taste. You have to tap an edit button and select the the item, then edit it. Tapping the item directly behaves as you would expect adding it to your checkout list, but it would be nice if each item had a little edit button for direct updating.

I would love to find a shopping app that gave me a report of buying over time. TooShopper comes close, but misses the mark for me. Choosing the tag cloud in portrait mode, I can tap on a individual item an see when I last bought it, and how much I have spend on that item over time in total. Furthermore, I can email a list to myself or wirelessly share it with TooShopper users. Both provide collaborative shopping which is not that important if you handle these duties by yourself. For me, having an email record is better than no reporting. As for how much I have bought of something, it would useful to see total quantity, not just dollars. There is a little glitch in the functionality of this feature as well. If you are trying out the list without actually shopping, there is no way to undo its record of you having bought something. The app has a shopping basket, but it needs a formal checkout step before adding purchases to your records.

Wonderful

It's great to have Bon Appetit and Gourmet Magazine recipes at your fingertips. My one wish is that they should include the overall fork rating and % of reviewers that would make the recipe again right in the section with the actual reviews.

GET THE FREE TRIAL* FAST!!!

This is hands down the best app i own now. If you are a NBA fan at all, this is as 'must-have' as it gets. LIVE NBA GAMES...Great video quality, team-specific reminders, replay games up to 48hours later...idk what else it would possibly take to sell you on this one. Im still using the trial version(because..., why not i guess), but have every intention on purchasing this immediately after it expires. The free trial is only available until Jan.24th so go get it now! I guarantee even the casual NBA fan will see the value in this one.

I keep this on my iPod for when my thinking becomes off. Created by Brian Eno and his painter friend, these have served me well as reminders and different ways of approaching things.

Still, it's more challenging than you think it'll be. I enjoyed it, and the game is very well done with small things like the man almost tipping over if you land on the edge of a platform- he's waving his arms like mad trying to save himself from falling- hahaha, it's so great!
