iPhone and iPad App User Reviews

Too Little Bahasa For Me

This is the free version, so I shouldn't complain, but there are a few flashcards and quizzes on the Indonesian words for fruits and weather conditions. Nice to get audio pronunciation, but this app is just a tease. Not enough grounding in useful phrases for a traveller or newbie to the language, not enough meat for advanced student of Bahasa Indonesia. With many language learning apps, you get what you pay for. Maybe I should try the paid version?

Man, this is a hard game!. It is the intelligent word game that combines a Vocabulary Puzzle Game with the popular Word Scramble and Find-A-Word Games that will truly test your word knowledge.

I've "used" this app in front of a number of dogs and never saw one respond to it at any frequency.

Someone's Always at the Dog Park

This is a great app to meet and talk with other pawple, I mean people ;) They've got tons of extra features like sorting by who is nearest you and you earn bones for free which means you can give gifts for free to the other cute pups online. There's always someone to bark it up with!

A Must Have

By far the best game for the iPhone to date. Brilliant and quirky game design, hours of game play. Challenging enough to keep you coming back and more than enough fun to make minutes turn into hours.

Don't let the price scare you away it is worth every penny.

The best photo editing app

I stumbled across FX Photo Studio while searching for something completely unrelated. Even though I was perfectly happy with PhotoShop.com Mobile and Photogene, the high number of excellent reviews on the app store caught my eye so I decided to check it out. This app is very impressive indeed. It contains 119 filters, effects, frames and numerous other features that you may want to apply to your photos, all of which can be combined to create an infinite number of variations. The app also includes the fundamental editing features that you would expect to see in an app of this type - crop, rotate and brightness adjustment. A handy undo button also makes an appearance. You can also change the resolution at which your photos are saved, opting to save at the original resolution if you want. This ensures you will not have to sacrifice quality, which is nice. Sure, it can take a few seconds to save finished photos, but it's not long enough to be a problem (at least not for me) and is certainly worth the wait for the quality results. (You even get to read "amazing facts" while you're waiting, which you can turn off if you prefer).

I thought long and hard about rating this app. It is probably worthy of five stars but I have rated it a four for the following reasons: there are several spelling mistakes. Granted, this has no detrimental effects on the app itself, but it looks sloppy and unprofessional and is one of my pet hates as there is no real reason for it. Secondly, and more importantly, the app does not autosave your progress if you have to exit before you have completed the job. So, if you have to hit that home button for some reason or if you receive a phone call, all your progress will be lost when you return. Finally, when you apply a filter to your photo, a preview pops up so you can see what effect it will have on your image. This preview screen could do with being larger as takes up less than a third of the iPhone's screen. I appreciate this would probably increase load times very slightly, but it's a trade-off that I would welcome.

In summary, this is the best photo editor I have come across in the app store and it has now replaced the other two I was using. It only cost me 59p (currently on 50% off sale) but I would have paid much more for it. Given the great content and sheer wealth of features, this is superb value. Even with the issues I mentioned above, I would still highly recommend FX Photo Studio for all iPhone photographers out there. Fantastic app.

Gilligan!!!!!!

Ok, this game is driving me crazy but I'm loving it!!! I find that I am easily bored with most iphone games as I prefer gaming on other mediums (console, PC). However, there is always a place on my phone for a game that you can play in short spurts but has you coming back for more (simple board games, card games, risk style games, etc.). SWAP definitely fits the bill as a game that is interesting and enjoyable enough to have you coming back to it for more. The graphics are perfect and the UI, after getting used to it, is more than serviceable. The gameplay is simple...you're stranded on a desserted island and you need to survive. You need to eat, sleep, drink, maintain your health and figure out a way to get off of the island. Don't worry, no spoilers here.

One thing that I must point out. The learning curve is pretty steep. It took some serious trial and error to get to a point where I could survive longer than a few days, so don't get frustrated and give up. This game requires some investment of time but that time can be in small increments.
