The best photo editing app
I stumbled across FX Photo Studio while searching for something completely unrelated. Even though I was perfectly happy with PhotoShop.com Mobile and Photogene, the high number of excellent reviews on the app store caught my eye so I decided to check it out. This app is very impressive indeed. It contains 119 filters, effects, frames and numerous other features that you may want to apply to your photos, all of which can be combined to create an infinite number of variations. The app also includes the fundamental editing features that you would expect to see in an app of this type - crop, rotate and brightness adjustment. A handy undo button also makes an appearance. You can also change the resolution at which your photos are saved, opting to save at the original resolution if you want. This ensures you will not have to sacrifice quality, which is nice. Sure, it can take a few seconds to save finished photos, but it's not long enough to be a problem (at least not for me) and is certainly worth the wait for the quality results. (You even get to read "amazing facts" while you're waiting, which you can turn off if you prefer).
I thought long and hard about rating this app. It is probably worthy of five stars but I have rated it a four for the following reasons: there are several spelling mistakes. Granted, this has no detrimental effects on the app itself, but it looks sloppy and unprofessional and is one of my pet hates as there is no real reason for it. Secondly, and more importantly, the app does not autosave your progress if you have to exit before you have completed the job. So, if you have to hit that home button for some reason or if you receive a phone call, all your progress will be lost when you return. Finally, when you apply a filter to your photo, a preview pops up so you can see what effect it will have on your image. This preview screen could do with being larger as takes up less than a third of the iPhone's screen. I appreciate this would probably increase load times very slightly, but it's a trade-off that I would welcome.
In summary, this is the best photo editor I have come across in the app store and it has now replaced the other two I was using. It only cost me 59p (currently on 50% off sale) but I would have paid much more for it. Given the great content and sheer wealth of features, this is superb value. Even with the issues I mentioned above, I would still highly recommend FX Photo Studio for all iPhone photographers out there. Fantastic app.
