Completely necessary app for moms

  • App review for Bank of Mom

This app is easy to use, fairly intuitive and a life saver for moms. My children have a heck of a time keeping money in their pockets, so they put it in the bank of mom. But mom is a busy scatterbrain and can never keep track of who gave me what and how much I have given them back for this or that. VOILA, this app solves that problem entirely! How did I ever get by without it?

Tremendously handy

You are feeling absolutely miserable, wanting to kill your husband and children, crying at the drop of a hat? It takes just a click to see that you have lost track of time and you are INDEED pmsing. All is right in the world again now that it is confirmed that you are NOT losing your mind.

While I am all done with the baby factory, this app would have been great for natural family planning. Also great for tracking your symptoms if you are having issues, for tracking when a good time to plan that romantic get away (up to a year in advance if your menses is regular), for tracking the length of your cycle and most importantly, for not losing track and getting caught by surprise without supplies ;) SO much more discrete than marking it on the household calendar!

I spend a tremendous amount of time sitting, waiting on my kids at this activity or that one. What better way to spend my time than listening to a TED talk or two? I love that I am able to take TED with me anywhere I go.

Great for road trips

This app was a life saver on long car rides, train rides etc while traveling internationally. Aside from some glitchiness now and then, this is a great app and a life saver when the kids are ready to kill each other!

I will be honest, my review might have been lower had I actually paid for this app. I snagged this for free, I believe off of http://www.freeappalert.com/ and while I personally think that it is a one off usage and good for a giggle, my youngest (9yo boy) loves it and uses it to entertain younger kids often. For the time it buys me with friends, it gets 3/5.

Tweetie 2 is Terrific

Tweetie 2 is my favorite Twitter app for the iPhone. I love how easy it is to switch between different Twitter accounts. The reply/reply all feature is wonderful. It makes retweeting and shortening URLs easier and adding a photo to your tweet is ridiculously simple. I only wish they used TwitPic instead of yfrog.

LEGO Photo is a Feel-Good App

If you like using different filters on photos, you might like LEGO Photo. LEGO Photo turns your images into LEGO versions. There are a handful of different color schemes to choose from. It's simple to use and fun to play around with your images. I loved playing with LEGOs as a kid so it's great to see a bit of my childhood on my grown-up iPhone :)

Groupon offers deals in your area daily. You can get a coupon (or groupon) on anything from yoga lessons to restaurants. I love it so I'm thrilled I can finally buy and manage my groupons while on the go!

Spend a little, save a lot

  • App review for BillMinder

I'm constantly looking for a better way to manage my monthly bills and budget. I bought BillMinder in hopes that it would prevent me from late payments. Thank god for push notifications!

I had a bit of trouble getting started. I didn't find the app to be very intuitive, but I'm getting the hang of it now. The best parts? Besides push notification, it gives you a monthly total of how much money you're spending on bills. It also allows you to export your bills to an Excel/Numbers spreadsheet.

If you're looking for a more efficient way to track monthly bills, I don't think you'll be disappointed with this app.

Addictive and Awesome

Words with Friends is now my most used non-social network app. You can play up to 20 games at once with any one of your contacts who has an iPhone. I like it better than Scrabble because I know who I'm playing against and it offers a chat feature for each game. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's the new Twitter (What were you thinking John Mayer?) But it's definitely addicting and a great way to kill some time!

Tiger Text puts you in control of your texts

It's important to keep in mind that while Tiger Text is free to download, it only gives you 100 free texts (to try) over a 15 day period. After that, Tiger Text uses Apple's In-App Purchase. It costs $.99 for 250 messages sent per month or $1.99 for unlimited messages. This doesn't use your iPhone's standard text option, so you won't be charged by AT&T for this text.

Tiger Texts allows the sender of the text message to decide when the text will leave the recipients phone, rather than relying on them to delete it. The downside? If you send a message and it expires before the recipient reads it, then that message is gone forever. Also? Both users must have Tiger Text to communicate via this app.

Currently this is only available for the iPhone, but a Blackberry app is scheduled for release mid-March, followed by the Android version in early April.

This game is perfect for when you've only got a few minutes to kill, but I often find myself getting hooked and playing for longer stretches. The concept is simple -- slingshot your birds into the pigs and their defenses. Very entertaining!

Great app for anyone who drives a lot

Ok so you want a good laugh using your iPhone-grab the aha radio app, link it to facebook, & listen to the computerized voice read the status updates....beyond that though this app also includes current traffic(either nearby or user generated), on demand podcasts, driver rants, certain twitter feeds and few other things you might find interesting while driving. While this might sound like a lot of other apps out there, this app reads to you the traffic reports, facebook feeds and twitter updates with a relatively impressive computerized voice. That way you don't have to actually look at the phone to get the information you need. The icons to select the services are nice and big which make it easy to navigate while driving so you can concentrate on the road. And the best part, it's free. This is a must get for anyone who drives a lot or deals with a lot of traffic on a daily basis.

Cool for multitasking

The ShoutOUT app is really convenient when I'm on the go. I have the option to type my texts or speak my messages. It's pretty convenient to use voice when my hands are busy, like carrying shopping bags. The accuracy is pretty good...sometimes even better than my own spelling.
