iPhone and iPad App User Reviews

Not a bad start....

The main problem with this app is that it isn't interested in selling further issues - rather, offering what I assume will be an individual app each month. Besides that, there's about 20 minutes worth of content. Not bad, but I would prefer a hair more content for the cash.

Look what I just did!

I was a tiny bit annoyed when I opened this app and had to enter a bunch of information and register before I got going (or at least it wanted me to) but the features of this app make the registration part a non-issue. By registering your information this app will give you a reasonable calorie count for your workout, track your ride with all the usual information, speed, average speed, miles, time, etc but the real exciting piece is that it will upload this information to the website where you can share with friends and compare rides to each other, allowing you to see improvement over time.

If you’re a social rider this app will even let you share your ride with your face book friends or post the information on twitter. Do beware that it will also share your weight and other information, so if you’re using this to get in shape you may want to hide this info before you share it with everyone you know.

As with any app this will stop if you answer the phone or change the song playing on your phone but restarting your ride is simple and the ride saves seamlessly so you don’t lose information. Apparently the paid app will allow you to control your iPod functions without leaving the app (handy for when that slow song accidentally comes on while you’re pounding away at your speed routine) as well as photo capture, so you can share the ride beauty should something interesting come up while riding. The paid app also has audio cues (what ever that is) to keep you on track for training though I am not sure if I want something telling me I’m going too slow!

Considering how good this app is I may well decide to buy the paid app and if I do I’ll make sure to tell you about it. But first we’ll have to see if this is indeed the best ride app out there. I’ve got at least 5 more free apps to check out first.

If you want something to really record and track your ride, and the ability to see them on your computer instead of only having them saved on your phone then you need this app without question.

Get Rollin'

I downloaded a number of different bike apps to track my ride as at this point I don’t have a cycle computer, and if any of these work well I may never have a cycle computer until I finally get a power tap. I plan on reviewing all of them but I’ll start with this one as this is the one I started using first. Not necessarily because it’s the best one, but because it’s the easiest one to use from what I’ve found thus far.

When I got down to the bike trail this week I was in a hurry. I’d forgotten my bike gear, the wind was blowing and it was getting late. It wasn’t going to get any warmer and I wasn’t about to spend a ton of time figuring out a bike app to use or having to read a bunch of documentation to get something working. And this is exactly where this app excels.

You don’t need to know anything at all to get this app going. Open the app, press start and it starts recording your ride. The nice big screen display shows you your average speed, current speed, max speed, miles, ride time and even elevation. The tiny map at the bottom shows you where you are (and really, if you’re going on your normal training ride you don’t need a map, you know where you are). The app saves your ride so you can see it later without issue and you can compare other rides to each other if you do the same thing again and again.

There are better apps out there for recording your ride, ones that allow you to download your ride activity to your computer and calculate calories accurately, but for a grab and go app this one can’t be beat. (NOTE: I was able to get a free version of this app. I'm not sure I'd buy it if there is a charge)

Love it!

If you're interested in diablo type of gaming, this one is for you. Eats a whole lot of the battery, but with the graphics quality, its worth it.

The Authority on Yellowstone in the Palm of Your Hand!

Yellowstone has so much to offer and just going there without a guide will only get you part of the experience. We bought this app because not only does it have a wonderful AUDIO background on each of the 125 waypoints but it is mapped to GPS and gives you the ability to journal what YOU see.

This is a must have - for visitors or just history buffs!

Shazam is Incredibly Cool!

Shazam has nothing to do with TVLand's Gomer Pyle saying, "Well, Shazam! Shazam! Shazam!" Instead, it's a very simple way of identifying that song your listening to and even gives you the option of buying from iTunes. Very nice!

Calling all puzzle game player!!!

Came across this casual game the other day. I bought it just because it's an eye-candy.The graphic gives me an impression that this is gonna be simple. Turned out I was wrong I mean some puzzles were really giving me a hard time figuring them out. But when I finally did it... errr.. it just makes me feel IM the smartest person in the worls..lol... :)
Basically the game utilized all the gestures on iPhone, like multi-touch, tap, tilt, flip, flicking... Definitely the first of its kind!

Fun little color tool that I've actually used more than once.

I'm hopeless when it comes to color. After using the app I'm still hopeless, just a little more informed.

Bravo!

I want to love you, but.....

  • App review for Gowalla
  • Posted by rachely March 19, 2010
  • Recommended for Shopaholics, Social Butterflies or Tech/Social Networking Junkies

I really want to like Gowalla, I'm trying really really hard. The developers are Austin, Texas locals (my home town) and I want to give the hometown team some play. However, I just can't get into Gowalla. SXSW 2010 has been an ultimate face off between location-based apps Foursquare and Gowalla and while Gowalla may have won the prize in the Web Awards, I think Foursquare remains the unspoken winner. First, I don't get the idea of virtual good..I never have. I don't feel incentivized by finding imaginary water bottles and cameras and leaving them behind for others. Secondly, the feel and look of Gowalla just smacks of cheesiness. And finally the app seems to work somewhat slow in comparison to Foursquare. The ideas of tours within the app are nice, I haven't yet used one, but I'm so exhausted with Gowalla I may never get to try.
