iPhone and iPad App User Reviews

Mental Illness

Definitions of a variety of mental illnesses. You can live without this app and it can be weird if other people see it on your phone, or at least hard to convince them you are sane, at least it was for me. Ha!

Brain & Nerves

This app has a ton of definitions and conditions that have to do with the Brain and Nerves. I probably won't keep it on my phone, but it was worth the download.

Good Basic Site Performance Information

The blank screen that some people see when trying to login is because of incorrect login info. Don't use your gmail email address to login. Use the email address you signed up for Google with originally. Once I figured that out, I was able to see a list of my sites.

I didn't find the ad to be that big a deal as far as blocking the screen. This app displays:
- Number of visits
- Pages visited
- Average time on site
- Pages per visitor
- Percentage of different traffic sources, etc.
This is very useful to me to get a quick overview of my sites. Would love to see an iPad version that takes better advantage of the larger screen.

BabyBuilder Lite

Avoid making ugly babies with this app. Load a picture of you and your loved one and see what the combination of the two of you will make. Fun and adorable. Don't be offended if the baby likes the mom more. I think it's programed.

Learn Chess

A very good basic guide to chess and chess strategy. If you are a seasoned player, then most likely you won't learn anything new here. If you are a newbie, then this is a good place to start!

Weather Eye

This is your standard weather app. I didn't find anything too special about it. It's useful to check the weather before going to the Beach. Then again, I'm not a person who checks the weather everyday. If you are, then it's worth the download.

Pictures of x-rays from Flickr. I found this app interesting because I don't have much experience with x-rays. If you are looking for something more in depth, then pass on this app.

Its 3d, and its free,- but...

Well, its hard to complain with the fact its free and its the first 3d tool type of app. Thats pretty awesome. But it falls short after that. Not useful for a 3d artist. Needs more fidelity in the mesh that you're sculpting. Also the user interface could use some work. Needs more functionality to make it fun- such as importing pictures over the mesh. Might be semi-novel to a 3d artist because its a 3d program.

I love me more.

Ugh, OK, it’s a free app but starting out right off the bat with a full page add knocks this down a bar no matter how good the application is.

Basically this app gives you sayings from Carrie’s articles or from the show in general. Sayings like “Maybe mistakes are what make our fate… without them what would shape our lives?” are what this app is about. There are about 25 of these gems and while some of them are insightful most are only somewhat interesting to think about.

While the app does give you the option of a random bit of wisdom with only 25 to choose from you’re likely to burn out pretty quickly. All that said, it’s a free app so if you’re a huge Sex in the City fan you should have this app. Three bars for meh.

Wickedly Addictive But Ends Early

Glow Burst is an addictive game but I'd like to see sessions last longer. Additional animation like exploding circles would also tease the eye and make it harder.

Not as Good as PDFReader Pro

I found GoodReader to have less functionality and it was less clean looking than PDFReader Pro for working with documents or PowerPoint slides.

Bizarre Artistic App With a Little Too Much Complexity

The problem with iBeamsHD is that the instructions stay only on the screen for a few seconds, and the app can get very complex. Hard to say what this app is best for since you don't have an Art category.

Terminate Me

This is a neat app that allows you to take or use a photo from your library and then slowly transform parts of your face to look like a terminator. I don't know if I will keep it on my phone, but it was definitely worth the download.

Kind of basic, but nice email feature

It's a basic Tarot reading. You have to go to the paid version for more features. Now if it was combined with Speak It! technology to where the Tarot cards could be read back to you, that would be cool!

Still sounds too computer-speak, no .Wav support

  • App review for Speak it! Text to Speech
  • Posted by randycafe May 28, 2010

Speak it! Text to Speech does a decent job converting large blocks of text, but it needs a few things- better speakers, they still sound too computer-generated, even the optional 99 cents ones you download (and what's up with the American voices?). The annunciation can be a bit strange sometimes. And there needs to be a way to just save it and directly attach it to an email, in one tap. And of course, it doesn't support .WAV files, which is a big issue.

I pasted a block of text about a PR campaign and every time it came to "PR" it would say "Puerto Rico," which was pretty funny. It doesn't particularly like acronyms, so if you work in tech, watch out!

Traffic Rush

The idea of this game is to keep the traffic flowing without any of the cars crashing into each other. The fun is short lived, but it was worth the download.

2Do Lite: A stunning to do list

  • App review for 2Do Lite: Stunning ToDo list

This is a very feature rich app, Usually, I just make a long, long list (sometimes I lose that list) and cross off tasks as I go along. With the lite version of this app you can prioritize, enter in a due date, and add audio reminders. I can't imagine what the full version offers! Very comprehensive!

Alarm Clock Free

This app transforms your iphone into a standard digital clock. The best feature is that you can pick songs from itunes to wake up to and there is a decent selection of other sounds to choose from. Personally, I think it drains my battery and therefore I haven't used it much.

Pimple Popper Proves Point

Well, it would seem that anything goes in the world of casual gaming! This is a silly and funny game. Disgusting. Worth installing just to gross out your friends.

You have to scratch and squeeze black heads. And pop white-heads without touching the tip. Ech!

The first few load times were slow and I thought the app was defective, but now it loads quickly and works well. It's a stupid waste of time, but strangely, it actually can suck you in. Theb, of course, you remember what you're doing and feel the shame. Ewwww...

This app has something for the puerile teen in all of us. Not much more than that though.

Good Game, but control scheme...

Could stand some work. I'd like to spend more time thinking about the kinds of shots I want to make against my opponents rather than moving the character into place so much. When you play volleyball, like table tennis, you think less about moving into position than what shot you want to make. Since table tennis and now volleyball apps seem to focus all their energy in where-is-the-player and not what shots to make, they suffer in making themselves really enjoyable to play.
