I’m as big a karaoke advocate as you can find, but even I recognize the limitations in the ancient art of destroying your favorite songs in a room full of strangers. Namely, that it takes a pretty good voice to sing some of today’s Top 40 hits convincingly. It’s hardly a fair fight, many pop musicians are having their own voices pitch-corrected as they sing, something that is rarely seen in a live karaoke setting.
Amazingly, StarMaker: Karaoke + Auto-Tune may have finally fixed this issue once and for all. As the name implies, StarMaker is not only a karaoke app, but an Auto-Tune app as well. Now when you record yourself singing “Call Me Maybe,” you can have the app Auto-Tune your vocals so you’ll sound pitch-perfect on every note. I’m happy to report that it works tremendously.
It makes the StarMaker catalogue a lot more appealing to those with limited vocal ability almost instantly. And there’s quite a catalogue to choose from here. While there are only a handful of totally free songs, StarMaker has over 500 tracks to choose from. They can be bought individually or all unlocked immediately for a subscription fee that ranges in price from $1.99 a week to $24.99 for six months of access. As an aside, subscriptions will auto-renew if they are not canceled at least a day before the renewal date.
As an added bonus to users who want to sing with a purpose, StarMaker has special sponsored contests that vocalists can enter to see how they match up against the rest of world. The prizes for winning are usually more in-game cash to spend on songs rather than actual, tangible gifts, but getting on top of a leaderboard for a huge karaoke app should be prize enough, right?
It’s hard not to be impressed with StarMaker. It does nearly everything right when it comes to karaoke, from doing a great job of picking up the singer’s vocals to the inclusion of Auto-Tune to the fun contests. If you’re dying to sing and want to share your tracks with your friends, StarMaker is a must-own app.
