Works when you leave the app- a must for any music app! I should say that I'm not at all familiar with Turntable so this app is a bit of a mystery. Basically you can be a DJ. K, got it.

While I hate apps that require a sign in this app allows you to log in with facebook which for me is much better than having to remember a password for an app I'll likely not use that often. So meh but not hate on that front.

For those of us who don't want to spend time playing music for others the app does get you some interesting stations you're not likely to find on your local radio dial. Want screaming industrial dance music? You'll likely find that here. Want classical? Yup, you'll find that here too.

Basically this is a great place to get away from the mainstream radio stations or to get a bit more of a specific genre and likely hear music you might not hear anywhere else. For those of you who want to DJ there's a ton more options with this than I could ever explain. I'll stick to the listening for now.

Mobile Turntable.fm might be better than the desktop!

A couple things hit you as soon as you get the app downloaded - they have BEAUTIFULLY recreated the graphics and style of the desktop for the mobile screen, and they've thoughtfully changed the UI and interaction dialogues where needed to make sense for a touch interface. For example, instead of the chat dialogue box at the bottom right, all you see is the room itself - chat bubbles pop above the heads of people listening, and you can switch to another mode just for chat. The "lame" and "awesome" buttons are still there with the "this song is" meter, and you can vote for the song you're listening to. The app plays great over wi-fi connection, with little buffering or stuttering, and will continue playing while you're working in other apps just like Pandora or iPod. It seems to handle headphone volume controls fine, but doesn't have a function for Play/Pause yet. If anything, this app is trying to do too much - the UI stutters a little with all the animations going on.

Some features you will find missing or buggy: you can start a room and DJ, and even arrange your queue, but you can't add a song that someone else is playing to your queue yet (or at least I haven't found that function). Chat scrolling is a bit buggy right now - in fact I had the app lock in the "chat" mode on me and I had to manually kill it to stop the music.

But all that's just background noise - this is the most anticipated app from the hottest social music platform out here, and it's FREE. Go get it, and start spinning.
