With its cartoony graphics and two-taps-to-swing gameplay, Let’s Golf! 3 is a deceptively simple golf game. But don’t let a few colorful golf courses fool you, this is a game with a nice amount of depth.
As you get started in Let’s Golf! 3, you’ll spend a good amount of time creating your golfer and giving him or her a starting set of attributes that either favor power or accuracy. This is most important when you’re starting out, because once you get going you’ll be able to add skill points to your various attributes depending on how well you golf.
That RPG-like customization gives Let’s Golf! players a reason to keep playing, aside from the solid gameplay that the app brings to the table. And the gameplay is pretty good. You can get a zoomed-in view of where your ball should land before you swing, and when you start your swing, two meters (one for power and one for accuracy) are all that stands between you and a glorious shot.
It’s not complex, but the tapping works great on the iPhone. I’m more than happy to tap away, as opposed to using the accelerometer to complete swings, an act that could result in more than a few broken iPhones.
The biggest complaint is that the load times are nothing to laugh at. Each time you play a hole in Let’s Golf! 3, the game makes you wait through a lengthy loading screen that does its best to zap enthusiasm about the game. But if you have enough patience to handle the waiting, you’ll find a solid game of golf awaits.
