Burn the City is a fun new physics-based destruction game, very similar to Angry Birds. It offers 45 levels of chaos and mayhem as you destroy every city you come across. With good graphics and polished gameplay, this is definitely a strong app.
You play as a baby Godzilla-type monster that has just hatched only to find that your mother and all your siblings are gone. You see the direction that they went and you head after them, destroying every city you come across on the way. If this creature is so big immediately upon hatching, I don’t want to know how big the mother is.
As I said, the game is reminiscent of Angry Birds, in that you are firing shots from fixed position with the goal of destroying something, only you are tasked with destroying every single bit of the environment rather than anything specific. It controls more like Worms though, in the way you aim, choose your angle, and adjust the power of your shot. As you progress through the levels, more mechanics are added, such as bouncy terrain, wrecking balls, and force fields. I will never understand why the generator of the force field almost always has to be outside of the field itself in so much science fiction. You also get the ability to consume “Yums” in order to enhance your shots, making them more explosive or giving them massive range. All of these elements work well together, and when you pull off the perfect chains of destruction, it’s extremely satisfying to watch the fireworks. Every level rates you, granting you bronze, silver, and gold medals. Figuring out the perfect shots to get the gold on each level will require you to think out of the box, and it’s even more satisfying than usual.
The graphics and effects are great, even though the camera can be a bit annoying. It always follows fireballs unless you stop it, and sometimes you just want to keep firing them, as there is no penalty for using numerous shots, unlike the limited shots of Angry Birds. I love how the fireballs and explosions are offset from the dark backgrounds and environments. It’s a very good looking game. There is already another batch of levels on the way. This app is iOS universal, and it’s only one dollar, which is a great price. Check this one out.
