Multiplayer fans, we’ve got a couple of quality games for you on today’s Fresh Games list. Fire up Super Stickman Golf and hit the Internet to play some side-scrolling physics-heavy golf action, or gather a couple of friends and hack through bad guys with a Bluetooth connection in Golden Axe 2. We’ve got the details below on both, and more, below.
Super Stickman Golf (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
For some reason, iOS devices make really great physics puzzle game platforms, which is part of why Super Stickman Golf is so fun. Much like the controls in games such as Angry Birds, you control the angle and power that goes into each swing as you play through 2D, side-scrolling courses. The trouble is, the courses are tough and demanding, with hazards, floating platforms and other difficulties that will challenge your skills and keep you playing.
Super Stickman Golf has that addictive puzzle-solving quality that comes with the best iPhone games, but you can get an edge as you play by bringing along special golf balls that give you power-ups or allow for things like mulligans. The game also includes a stellar multiplayer mode that allows up to four players to face off either locally over a Wi-Fi network, with a Bluetooth connection, or over the Internet.
Golden Axe 2 (iPhone, iPad) $2.99
Another 16-bit classic of the Sega Genesis and arcade era brought to iOS, Golden Axe 2 is an old-school hack-and-slash title in which you choose a character and do battle with hordes of enemies, using your blade and magical powers. Sega has updated Golden Axe 2 with its standard touch-control emulator, and includes the original’s pixelated art style.
The best way to play Golden Axe 2 isn’t alone, however -- especially because it’s really difficult. It’s much more fun with a friend or two, which is good because Sega’s remake of the game includes local Bluetooth multiplayer, supporting up to three people at once, allowing you and some friends to take on the roles of the barbarian, Amazon and dwarf at the same time to battle the forces of darkness.
Cooties (iPhone, iPad) Free
Cooties are loose in your lab’s water samples, and you have to rescue money and stars from the samples using only your finger. In Cooties, you touch your finger to the screen and it becomes your lifeline to the level -- lift it, and the game pauses. You drag your finger around the screen, touching bubbles with power-ups, money and stars inside them, and dodging fast-moving cooties that fly around. If they touch you, you take damage -- too much, and you lose the levels.
You get a 20 challenging levels when you download Cooties, as well as a survival game mode where you play as long as you can keep from succumbing to the cooties. The game also has OpenFeint support for leaderboards and achievements, and is free until May 1, when the price will rise to $0.99.
