We have all walked into a cool bar, seen the DJ working the turning tables, and dreamed about a life wherein you're paid to party.
Before you quit your day job, we recommend getting a taste of the biz with the DJ Rivals iPhone app (free). It might not help you land your first gig, but it's a lot of fun.
Create a username and password, and you're ready to roll. Usually, I skip intros when visiting a new app or website, but the 90-second DJ Rivals intro is entertaining, and a preview of what you can expect in the game.
At the beginning of the game, you'll be presented with an avatar, based on the gender and age you provided when creating the account. Dress and style him or her according to your musical tastes.
Then it's time to battle. Your DJ self is defending your neighborhood against Bland Corp., a team of homogenous minions determined to eliminate everything colorful and hip. You're armed with your cool style and even cooler beats.
Select one of the buildings on the screen, enter, and you'll meet your mixing rivals. "Battling" consists of keeping up with the beats of the song by tapping the screen at certain opportune moments. Your accuracy earns points, which can be used to purchase additional gear, such as higher-grade sound mixers.
Work your way through all of your Bland Corp. rivals until you're crowned No. 1 DJ. All in all, a rather silly app, but entertaining.
