APPOLICIOUS ADVISOR RATING:

4 of 5 bars
  • PRICE: Free
  • TASTY: Quickly get into a game with real opponents.
  • BUMMER: Paying for chips? Ugh.
  • COOL: Nice sleek interface.

I am somewhat ashamed to admit this, but I am not a very good card player. I often wish I was a smooth, mysterious cat who always wears a suit and a fedora just because he can — but I'm not. No matter how I try, I never make the grade. No worries though, because, casual player or not, everyone can appreciate this great iteration of mobile card playing. Zynga Poker by Zynga — for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch running iOS 3.0 or later — is a great place to spend some time playing cards. The only downside I see is that you'd better be good or you'll be spending more than $0.99 on some extra chips.

Zynga Poker is the new version of Live Poker Deluxe by Zynga. It's a simple concept: There are a bunch of users online at any given time (406,000 last time I was on), and there are a bunch of active tables you can buy into. You get a bunch of chips to start with, $15,000 worth, but after that, you gotta pay — and this time, it's real money. This small detail is the only bummer about the app. Everything else is top notch. Join a table, wait for the hand to finish, and you're in. Remember, the greatest thing about this app is that you're playing with real people, so stay sharp.

From the intro screen, to sitting at the table, the app has a good feel to it. There are sounds and notifications that are very helpful while you play. For example, if you fold out of a hand and set down your device, the device will vibrate and make a distinct noise, letting you know there has been a new hand dealt, and the table needs your attention. Along with the great interactive sounds, the app is a bit humorous. I truly appreciate "clever," and this app has it.

If you play poker for real or just enjoy a casual game, you'll enjoy Zynga Poker. It'll help you brush up on your game for the next poker night. Just don't lose all 15k too fast, you don't want to have to pay the house before you even get to the casino.

Poker is not an application, it is a game. A game that must be played in a company of people, not through internet. Even writing service says the same.

Zynga poker apps are OK but since you cannot play real money Texas Holdem they loose their appeal for me pretty quickly. www.pokerroomcompare.com/iphonepoker/ say that Apple have approved an iPhone app in England so maybe soon there will also be a US apple approved poker app.
