Three anticipated releases hit the App Store today, and all are very worthy of your attention. Gameloft’s newest big title is Sacred Odyssey, an action-role-playing game boasting some pretty 3D graphics, great voice work and 10 hours of story gameplay. Capcom has ported its Devil May Cry franchise from consoles to iOS, with some very cool results, in Devil May Cry 4 refrain. And League of Evil from Ravenous Games is some fine 8-bit 2D platforming for just a buck. Read about them all below.
Sacred Odyssey: Rise of Ayden (iPhone, iPad) Free (with in-app purchase of $6.99)
The latest iOS game from Gameloft is an action role-playing game in the fantasy styles of big console franchises such as The Legend of Zelda, Fable and Final Fantasy. You’ll take on the role of Ayden, a sword-wielding hero who has to journey through a 10-hour campaign to stop an evil that threatens the land.
The first 15 minutes or so of Sacred Odyssey are free, and the full version of the game can be purchased in-app for $6.99. It’s a big game with lots to do, hundreds of items to find and gather, and some pretty fast-paced monster-fighting action. With some very high production values (including impressive voice acting), Sacred Odyssey intends to have you burning up your iPhone battery exploring its world for quite a while.
League of Evil (iPhone) $0.99
An 8-bit, 2D platformer, League of Evil features some tight controls, a fun art style, and a whole lot of challenging levels. In each stage, your job is to scale walls, avoid electrified spikes and pound through soldiers to find evil scientists who are working to build weapons of mass destruction -- and punch their heads off.
League of Evil features OpenFeint and Game Center support for leaderboards and achievements, and you’ll want to see how you stack up with your scores because this is not an easy game. Each level is timed, so moving quickly and efficiently is always the goal. And there are more than 50 of those levels for you to master.
Devil May Cry 4 refrain (iPhone, iPad) $1.99
If you’re a fan of the Devil May Cry franchise on consoles, you’ll want to act fast to get this new iOS port of the latest game in the series before the price jumps. You’ll hack through 10 levels pulled from Devil May Cry 4’s story and play as half-demon devil hunter Nero in some combo-heavy, arcade-style action.
As you perform combos on different enemies to destroy them, using the series’ signature guns and swords in different situations, you’ll earn orbs that can be spent to unlock new skills and upgrade your character. Working through the levels and upgrading is key to withstanding the eight big boss fights you’ll work through during the game. Console fans, you’ll want to check this one out.
