I wasn’t sure about this app when I first downloaded it and began reading the documentation. Buy an expensive cover with a magnifying lens just to make this app work? Probably not. Turns out despite the warning that you may need this extra thing, I personally haven’t had any issues using just the regular camera and for that I’m glad. I’m heading to a convention in a few weeks and I expect this will come in very, very handy.
The idea is pretty simple. Take a picture of a business card, upload it to their servers, wait for maybe up to a day and back comes the business card in contact form on your phone. Thus far it’s been very accurate, even knowing that the “f” in front of a number means it’s a fax number. Smart.
There are a number of expensive things you can get to read a business card but thus far I see no reason not to simply use this application. I should add that it did a smashing job with my personal mini cards too so even weird formats aren’t an issue. Take the picture so it’s clear, take it in good light and be patient (it won’t come back as a contact right away) and I suspect this app will live up to your expectations with flying colors.
