Appolicious Showcase: Mathway

by Appolicious Showcase

There is a new formula for success in mathematics thanks to apps like Mathway.

The education application, which can be downloaded for free to the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and is also available for Android devices (including a separate version for the Amazon Kindle Fire), is a wonderful resource for math students as well as their conscientious parents.

Powered by Bagatrix math software, with a service also available online at Mathway.com, Mathway is great for middle school, high school and college students hoping to rise to the head of the class. Simply enter in a math problem in the areas of Basic Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus and Statistics, and the Mathway app generates immediate answers.

The Mathway app has a clean and intuitive interface that allows users to type in problems just as they would with basic and advanced calculators. All of the answers generated by the Mathway app are free, and all Mathway applications are free to download.

Of course, if you ask any math teacher, coming up with answers is only part of the assignment. You have to show your work and demonstrate an understanding of how a given problem is solved. Accordingly, the Mathway apps also provide step-by-step explanations for solving individual problems. This premium service is available via subscriptions, ranging from a one-day $4.99 fee (perfect for an individual homework assignment or test prep session) to a one-year $49.99 fee (to be used throughout the course of a semester or year.)

The Mathway database is already equipped to solve tens of millions of math problems. The developers eventually hope to provide answers and step-by-step solutions to all math problems.

As one reviewer describes it, having the Mathway app “is like having a math tutor at the palm of your hand.”

Mathway can be downloaded for free from the iTunes App Store to the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, from the Google Play Store to most Android devices Android devices, and from the Amazon App Store to the Kindle Fire tablet.
