Catch Me If You Can! is a Tiny Watt Games series designed to help school aged kids practice and learn Mandarin Chinese.
Each game lets the player listen to and chase after words and phrases which are drawn from a single topic of interest. He or she listens actively to the words and their sequence, learning how they are used to make sentences that are idiomatic, colloquial and relevant. By mastering the gameplay, the player improves listening comprehension, and acquires the idioms naturally.
While the goal of the game is to catch all the phrases and sentences presented, the player advances in the game at his/her own pace and can replay as many times as desired. The player can choose to listen to the phrase word by word, or listen to the whole sentence, or have only visual cues. In addition, the player can freely explore the sound of each word and try to make phrases and sentences independently.
Levels
Level 1 ( Third-Grade to Fifth-Grade )
The phrases in level 1 games are built on simple words, and express rudimentary feelings and opinions. e.g.
- 我最喜歡玩水. / 我最喜歡在水裡玩.
- I like playing in the water the best.
- 你覺得仰泳難嗎? / 仰泳一點不難!
- Do you find the backstroke difficult? / The Backstroke is not difficult at all.
Level 2 ( Fourth-Grade to Sixth-Grade )
The phrases in level 2 games are built on expanded vocabulary, sentence structures and concepts, expressing deeper knowledge and thoughts. e.g.
- 除了打籃球以外我還喜歡踢足球.
- Besides bastketball, I also like to play soccer.
- 我沒空練球. / 即使沒有時間我也要把時間擠出.
- I don't have time to practice / Even if there's no time, I will make time for it (practicing).
