AugustWest says: Thanks to smartphone applications, a wealth of the world's information is literally available at our fingertips. But what are the best reference apps for iOS devices? Here are my favorite.
AugustWest's picks
  1. WolframAlpha
WolframAlpha The deep research capabilities with this app are so strong that Apple incorporated WolframAlpha technology inside Siri. While it used to be $50, not it is a very affordable $2.99. Great value!
  2. Wikipanion
Wikipanion Hands down the best iOS client for Wikipedia, which for better and worse is the most accessible reference source on the planet.
  3. IMDb Movies & TV
IMDb Movies & TV The bible for any film and television fan, which is most anyone. A must have for iPhones and iPads.
  4. Google Translate
Google Translate This app and web service from Google is almost like science fiction. Translate text from any common language into English or other language of your choice. Beyond genius!
  5. Urban Dictionary by Slango
Urban Dictionary by Slango Of course it's helpful to have the Webster's or Dictionary.com standard dictionary. But this is a fun one to tap into and keep you abreast of popular culture.
