Apps for Michael
says: I met with my friend Michael last night and somehow we began talking about apps. It's always interesting when someone asks me what my favorite apps are as this goes beyond what I like and into what they would like and my true favorite apps on the market. This is what I told him.
Weather Alert USA
Michael loves this one!
I purchased this app because it stated that the app was based on NOAA information (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and I've been wanting an app from them forever. Why? Because to put it quite simply, it's the most accurate information out there. The app seems pretty good... It will give you all sorts of interesting information, like dewpoint, barometer and visibility ratings and even gives you regular hints as you navigate through the app. You can look at the Radar, Satellite, Map, Graph, and even the notes that are posted with a NOAA weather report. Comparing it to the website it looks to be EXACTLY what NOAA is saying. To be honest, I couldn't be happier... here in the northwest getting a good forecasting app is very difficult... we have difficult weather, but now I have NOAA in my pocket and it's likely I'll never use anything else again.
Another thumbs up from Michael for this app. If you're someone who travels either for work or in spite of work it's helpful to know where you're network is, and most importantly, where your network isn't. This app will help you immensely. Further, it'll help you decide what service you might want to purchase or how to bump your current coverage with a secondary service (I have both Verizon and ATT, which it turns out is pretty good for my area). The best part of this app is how well it shows the sadly disconnected parts of the country which are absolutely huge. It also helps you see that certain areas are better with different companies. Odd areas of the country aren't covered by the big players. This app isn't going to guarantee that you have coverage in any certain area, but it will help you determine where you're likely to have coverage and where you absolutely won't. Excellent app by excellent nomadic people.
Not a huge fan of the chain but as Michael rides motorcycles too I suggested this app for the "I'm traveling in a weird town and need a place to warm up, change out of my wet socks and hit the road again quickly" situations.
Michael asked if this was like Sound Hound. Yes, but better because it can find my obscure music and even found some techno Bollywood in a crowded and loud Indian restaurant.
