elysa says: While I'm traveling I find that I'm even more dependent on my phone and various apps than when I'm home. These apps make my life easier when I'm on the road (or a plane)
elysa's picks
  1. TripIt - Travel Organizer - FREE
TripIt - Travel Organizer - FREE I use this app because I like Tripit's website features - posting travel plans to my social sites and easily adding travel plans via email. While I'm traveling its convenient to have gates, flight stats, etc.
  2. TripCase
TripCase Yes I have 2 apps that do almost the same thing. The major seller for this app versus TripIt is I can add flights, hotel, etc directly from the app. Or easily save all of your travel arrangements (flights, car rentals, hotels, conference tickets) by forwarding confirmation emails to trips@tripcase.com. A fun feature, that fortunately I haven't had to use yet, is alternate flights available. Local weather is a nice feature as well.
  3. Yelp
Yelp I may be THAT girl that walks down the street with iPhone waving around so I can have the nearby Monocle feature tell me what restaurants are near. Never get stuck eating at a 2 star restaurant.
  4. GateGuru, Airport Info & Flight Status
GateGuru, Airport Info & Flight Status This app is so fun! As soon as I made it through security I was scouting which direction to head for some foodage. In my wandering I discovered there's a Redbox and of course I had to quickly add this Amenity to the Boston airport. You can take photos, rate and review all the shops and restaurants in any airport. There's also an easy post to Facebook or Twitter option as well.
  5. The Weather Channel®
The Weather Channel® If you don't already have this, get it now! My favorite feature of this app is the 36 hour Forecast. This is great for home and traveling. If you frequent a location you can store various cities as well.
  6. WHERE
WHERE On the homescreen of this app you will find: news, movies, events, check-in, places, placebook, gas prices, weather and restaurants. What else could you want? Tell it WHERE you'll be and you're all set.
  7. Bump
Bump If you are traveling for work or fun use this app to share contact information with those you meet on your travels.

I completely agree Able, mine is wonderful and it serves as a perfect travel companion when I need it the most. On my frequent trips for Dish related business, I always have yelp and kayak loaded on my iPad due to the difference they make. Then for the airports and hotels, I keep dish remote access ready to go so I can access all my programming and DVR content in case something I’m not prepared for comes up. Regardless of what travel app you choose, I would utilize the apps available due to the huge difference they make!
