Gate Maps is killer! I was stuck in Phila once and I swear they had two gates with the same name (on opposite ends of the airport, of course!). I was torn on where to go so I checked Gate Maps and they confirmed the right one. I was saved!! It is almost better than my best coupons app, which is saying a lot! Trust me, Gate Maps is very useful

Gate Maps was designed with the expectation that you'll usually refer to a terminal map while in-flight or in areas with limited connectivity, and therefore works in Airplane mode (no network connection needed for terminal info), on either an iPhone or iPod Touch. Also, given many airport sites use Flash for their maps, accessing such content from your iPhone/iPod Touch is currently not possible. PDF is another popular format, but the download time negates a quick lookup when you're rushing to make that connection!

@kcooper11, agreed KAYAK is an excellent service app, I have used it for many traveling needs. Also excellent free apps for traveling - Zagat To Go and FastMall.

Great list! I've really found Tripit to be the perfect travel planner/tracker as well. You should seriously consider adding Yelp and Breadcrumbs to your list!

Reply to comment Posted April 21, 2010

I think I will add Yelp because it does have a ton of features. I haven't tried Breadcrumbs. Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out.

LocalEats is a great help when you don't have much time in a city and don't want to "waste" your meals! It only lists the good, local restaurants, and that doesn't mean the most expensive. Great in the top 50 US cities, and includes smaller markets, although more limited in selections.

I love traveling so all of these apps seem very useful, especially the kayak one! I use so Im familiar with it and it finds me cheap deals

Great list... I'd add Skype for when you need to make a call from a rural area (where you can get wifi, cause you can get wifi everywhere!) and Yelp just so you know if that restaurant stinks or not.

Here's a great app for those traveling during the world cup...
Check out this new iPhone app. It's really cool. It allows you to find fellow fans of the world cup and also shows you where you can watch the games (bars, cafes, etc) all over the world. Very cool. It's call SOCCER NEAR ME

How about World Flights: Live departure and arrival information for every single flight in any given airport in the World. Fast, easy, intuitive and very low price: the best flight tracking application on the Appstore.

I travel around the World once a month and built this mighty little app to keep track of my flights or find me some quick alternatives in case of delays or cancellations.

If you are into remembering restaurants to come back to, try "My Restaurants". Great for keeping restaurants' info when you travel so you can call for reservations or send to people who ask for recommendations. Lots of features like map locator etc.

Great iPhone apps for Barcelona travelers:

They also have other cities like Prague, New York and London.
Very detailed and good quality data on local bars, restaurants, hotels etc. Free app and offline, all stored on the iPhone so when travelling with it does not cost no data roaming charges.

As a self employed & employed person myself, I do everything by the book: Tax, VAT, the lot, but I'd advise you not to bother. With ?5k either way, the paperwork isn't worth it. If you declare a second income, you also have to pay hair tips a second class 5 national insurance contribution, or declare exemption, and you will also make yourself liable to tax inspections, as well as the additional work & maintaining turnover below the VAT threshold. Trust me, I know! As a higher rate taxpayer, you're not of any interest to the taxman for any further liability unless you stick your head above the parapet, but I admire your honesty.
