Occasions (Birthdays, Anniversaries, Push Notifications and more!) is a delightful surprise of an app. Its function is simple—it reminds you of important dates like birthdays and anniversaries—but it does this one thing well. The app is reliable and easy to use and, best of all, complements the iPhone workhorse, Contacts.
I wouldn’t use a date-remembering app if I had to maintain two sets of data, and the fact that I can add something to Occasions and see it later in Contacts (and by extension, my desktop Mac’s Address Book) is fantastic.
Of course, any birthday, anniversary, or custom event entered in Contacts will show up in Occasions, but you can also add dates from the Occasion app that go back to Contacts, which is great because entering information from Occasions is easier. For an existing entry in Contacts, I’d have to make at least three taps to add an important date. In Occasions, the task requires a single tap.
I do wish I could see my Occasions events in my Calendar app, but to be fair, Calendar doesn’t recognize Contacts’s events either. Apart from that one gripe, I have nothing ill to say of Occasions.
The app does what it promises, and it’s a looker to boot. Its interface is clean and intuitive, and I can choose from a number of themes to get the appearance that suits me.
With its Push notifications, at-a-glance referencing, and integration with Contacts, Occasions is an easy sell. Install this app today.
